Topic: Section for Mapping Script commands please

Is it possible we could have a new forum section just for mapping scripts.

I am sure I am not the only one that finds the wiki pretty limiting and having to hunt through thousands of topics just doesnt work.

Then users could post scripts that they use for certain actions, it sure would make life eaier

That is what the Hardware forum is for since 99% of the time the scripting question revolves around a controller.

I do understand what you mean, but a lot of the times its more about understanding what scripts to use and when which would be common regarding what controller is involved or whether its just being set via a keyboard shortcut. I just thought a separate section on the forum would help us to understand it all that bit better.

Its probably hard for people that do know it well to realise just what a steep learning curve it is for most users.

I really do thing a separate section for non controller specific scripts would be a massive help and not hard to implement.
 
Well that is just it - no one uses the Hardware section anyhow and splatter things all over the other forums. If everyone would use the Hardware forum - since 90% of the time that is exactly what they are asking about - then it would all be in one place. And, btw; a keyboard is hardware.

I think perhaps because most users wouldnt class a keyboard as a hardware controller (although technically it is) may be the root cause of why post get put in other sections because no one is sure where to post them.


Couldn't the mods move the offending posts to a scripting section, thus keeping it all one place and helping other users get the most out of VDJ it really would help.

Users could then post specific scripts to perform commands they have found or need help with.

For example I pulled this from the from wiki link only as an example.

Post: To mute only when the button is held down:

down ? mic_volume 0% : mic_volume 100%

I really believe it would stop the random posts all over the place which are near impossible to find as they are often buried deep in a thread that most of the time the topic title makes it near impossible to locate.

Scripting is one of the hardest things to learn about VDJ and I am no newby to software based DJ applications, why not make it that little bit easier with a simple addition to the forum. Most of the scripting actions really have no proper documentation to what they actually do, this would really help to educate.
