this year i am going once again to see & hear the Trans Siberian Orchestra (3rd time)

they aren't from Siberia and they are not a symphony orchestra

you have already heard there music in commercials even if you don't know who they are

they are the biggest recurring annual tour in North America

there lights , (including fog , snow and flames ) are the best bar none , the production in all aspects

is amazing , really a must see

this is what happens when a Broadway sensibility meets holiday traditions and a prog rockish band

the band is amazing , consisting of guitars , keys , bass , violin , drums

some of them are from Savatage originally

at each stop on tour a small string section joins them , a pick up section of local

musicians

there are about a dozen beautiful ladies singing

everyone is in formal wear , tux's and gowns

the guest singers and narrators are amazing and they are known for having great surprise guests

this year in Philadelphia the most expensive ticket is ....... $59.50 same as last year

as always they will start by donating a check , a percentage of the receipts to a local Philly cause , as they do

at every stop on tour ..... i think last year it was $12,000 .......

it's G rated , so you can take the kids and grandkids and never have to cringe .....

to me , one of there concerts is an experience like say, standing at the rim of the Grand Canyon

or walking across the Brooklyn Bridge , it's that good

if you can't go to a concert , "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve " dvd may be the next best thing

I've never seen them but I have seen "Mannheim Steamroller" and its a badass show as well. I don't know about the whole Grand Canyon thing cause that's a totaly different experience altogether. But if them venture through the midwest around Iowa ill check em out..

Huey

i like Mannheim Steamroller also and have seen them in concert

i am a drummer and like that a drummer is the heart of the outfit .....

i love there funky version of good king wenceslaus

i greatly prefer TSO

if the past is any indicator there will be 4 or 5 jaw dropping moments

when they rock they summon a power that is awesome i think

i'll get some pix if i can ....

"Carmen" invited herself , she's the cover babe for the strip club's website , she just texted she's

on her way

she makes men walk into walls and fall in manholes and such .....

i'll get some pix so you can all say " why does she go out with him"

well, they topped themselves ....i don't know how they do it ......

how do they keep coming up with these new arrangements of such old classics ?

how do you synchronize FLAMES ??? in tight staccato bursts ???

the video backgrounds / backdrops just get cooler all the time

i had a little laugh or two at a coupla points ... the FOH and the lights guys were covering the laptops

from the heat from the flames ....they had flames behind them that ranged in size from small to solar flare .....

the spokesman for the band/guitar guy got out IN the audience , as did the super hot lead female singer

they introduced a new 17 year old singer (who was born in '93 when the band was formed) she was great

as always Jeff Plate the drummer counts everything off ......even the final bow ....

he always tosses his sticks which is great .... he caught it the one time and missed on the other ....

after there final bow , he went up to the front and handed out sticks (he didn't just throw them)

they had these huge walkways that they lower from the ceiling , and various band members / singers / dancers

run out on , and they are out over the crowd about 20 feet up

the narrator guy gets better and better ....anybody can stand there and say the words , but to project

a little soul .......

anytime a singer or the narrator stopped for effect ...........you could hear a pin drop

at one point they gotta hold of "The Nutcracker" and turned it every way but loose for about

10 minutes ..... anywhoo , don't believe me , check out youtube

the new music from the Night Castle cd was amazing .... probably there best all original music

yet , very modern , and the band gets a chance to flex some muscle in a different way ....

i will see live a few other good things this holiday season , like Nutcracker , and Longwood Gardens,

and the great shows on PBS .... but TSO is tough to beat .....

i forgot one of the best bits .....this year's check was $ 11,153 to the Salvation Army

fortunately for us fans , they topped themselves , as there is nothing like

Trans Siberian Orchestra
