lol, 12 huh? Wow you're getting a early start! Most of us are adults with jobs and that's how we afford our equipment. Some like me, had a regular job and once we started getting paid to play took most if not all the money earned from our gigs and spent it on DJ gear and music.

plus 1 on that....... Jam master Rob...

On the other side start doing little jobs that you can find where you live. example try cutting lawns, collecting cans and plastic for recycling and so forth you wouldn't believe how fast you would be able to earn some cash....

Hey DJFrobro,

I remember first starting out. I bought my first equipment after working at a summer job and doing other odd jobs. I just wanted to remind you that maybe you should check out some of the second hand stores or pawn shops. There are normally some good buys on used DJ equipment. When first starting out, having new to you equipment is not so bad. When you get better at it and start making a few bucks, then you can start upgrading your gear. It does not hurt either to ask anyone you or your folks know if they have any old audio equipment lying around, that they don't want anymore. I think many of us started out using various pieces of Radio Shack gear (The Source, for us here in Canada).

I did my first gigs with a Bogen GS100 tube 100 watt amp with Marsland Projector speaker columns, a BSR turntable with a ceramic cartridge and a Sony reel-to-reel tape recorder. I used Xmas lights. I worked that summer and bought a used Meteor Sona-Lite 3000 color organ. I upgrade as I could, but it took me awhile. Equipment is important but what people really notice are your skills, your personality and the way you conduct yourself.

You're on the right track and I wish you the best.

Ps - Where in Canada are you? I'm in Dartmouth NS.
