When I used externals, I made my own. I can't stand those adaptors with the wall warts. Try one of these. I use Western Digital & Hitachi.

Sorry no, How you been Staffy? Nice to see you back 'round the old place...

There's a great difference between hard drives brands as long as capacity, speed, portability, reliability, durability and flexibility are involved. You will have to filter your wants and needs to be able to get the ones that suit your expectations. It used to be 3 major brands on the market but now 2 since Seagate bought Maxtor.Western Digital was the 3rd popular on the scale.I strongly recommend Seagate as number 1 mostly for reliability, portability and durability.I recently added Iomega for the flexibility of using it with USB 2.0 for Windows and firewire for Mac.It transfers 4 times faster with firewire than USB so I use the same hard drive to back up both machines.

Hard drives (mechanical , Not SSD) are basically similar some faster than others , your best bet is to get a 7200rpm Hard Drive (stay away from green drives they have a tendency to go into a standby mode which is no good for vdj) also buy a separate external case, with a fan yes a fan. I use a brand that works for me and never seems to even get warm (pm me for specifics).... NOW heres the Important part, Your connection to that hard drive is so very critical to how fast a song will load. USB is the slowest due to limited bandwith buy E sata is super fast and usb 3.0 is smoking fast. If your computer does not have an e sata port you can buy an express card for about 30 dollars and have e -sata , I did this for my older XP notebook and it made one hell of a difference , i run a 1 gig esata harddrive with it , doing 95 percent video and Spinning In a Professiional Nightclub , So to sum it up, check Neew Egg or Tiger Direct and get a decent hard drive and external case and lots of thoses cases have multi outputs for example the one i use is e sata and usb---- If you can stay away from usb only external case do it . Good Luck

NOTE: if you do buy separate components you will have to format the hard drive, I use fat 32 it works better for me and is also compatible with mac both ways.

this is only my opinion due to my experience facts of what is best for a few reasons, theres nothing wrong buying a my book or seagate Free agent or whatever , I just havent had as good luck that route... had them burn up, not last very long, go to sleep and had to wait 5sec for song i just clicked to load etc...

Sincerely DJ JAMM

Seagate has been the best for me. I will not buy western digital because many years ago they would crash. Maybe they are better now, I am not taking the chance. Whatever you buy, make sure you backup; always have two copies.

firstly thanks for input guys great advice here
secondly tear em never left just learning how to help meself lol also updates are so smoking hot theese days no crashes
