i am brand new to the DJ world and I had a question before I start buying software/hardware... I have been playing around with virtual DJ home 7 (the free edition). I have decided on buying the Hercules RMX MIDI controler, but on this website it says it does not work with the home edition of virtual dj. I just wanted to know if this was true or not before I started buying everything, because i'm only using it for fun and for parties...

It will work for ten min. The Home Edition is only meant as a TRIAL. You can test all of it features fully for 10 min. In order to use a midi controller you have to the Full Pro Version.
Hope to see you as a Pro user soon

When you buy the RMX it will come with a usuable edition to use. From that point I would suggest upgrading if like me, you can't help but want to.

Yeah man like they said, the home edition can work only for 10 min with midi controllers. The hercules rmx comes with a limited edition that works fine with the controller, but this is only for the hercules rmx, it wont work with another controller, thats the limited edition. But, it also comes with a 50% off to upgrade virtual dj pro, so you dont have to pay 300$ for vdj but 150$.

Yeah, that was the bonus & it definitely made it easier for me to upgrade cuz when you look at the big picture, you are chunking down half a G on the RMX & software upgrade.

I too started with the RMX about 2 years ago, used the vdj version that came with it for about a month. Then couldn't help but to upgrade. Still I think it was a good decision.
Also, I started to do it for friend's parties and for my own fun, and it turned into a money making job for me. The Hercules and VDJ has more than paid for themselves.
When you get decent at it, look for restaurants that already have sound systems (if you don't have your own yet), make friends with the bartenders, (hopefully one who has pull within the restaurant) then talk to a manager and offer to DJ a thursday night or something like that for an amount you think its good (depending where you live and the type of restaurant/crowd, $300 for 4 hours wouldn't be a bad start)
Before you know it, you'll be buying all kinds of gear :)
