I use MP3+G files, essentially; a compressed zip folder containing an mp3 and the visual file.
This was done from putting all my CD+G discs in the computer and getting them converted into the MP3 format to use with Virtual DJ.
There are various sites where you can download the latest karaoke releases as well as old collections etc.
http://www.karaoke.cc/ is an example but a simple google search can find you on loads of sites that offer tracks. I'd be more inclined to get the releases as opposed to singles simply due to the price difference you will probably see.

MP3+G is the way to go
You need to build a good song base to start with, purchase a large good collection of karaoke and then build on it. I have issues with karaoke. I love to sing and enjoy hearing "some" people sing, but the big pain in the but is finding good karaoke music that sounds almost as good as the origional artist. I have thousands of karaoke songs that get sang on a regular basis and thousands that have never and probably never will get sung.
So my best advice is shop wisely. Why purchase a CDGs with 20 songs on them when only 2 to 4 of those songs will ever be used when you can establish a base of older hit songs and then purchase individual karaoke tracks that you know or feel will be popular with your customers. I like to include a sheet in my karaoke song books titled "songs I don't have that you like to sing" and let my customers write what songs down that I don't have that they want. I then take those lists and continue to build my collection. However everyone likes to sing something differant so it seems it is a gamble with any karaoke track purchase.
Best of luck to you with getting into karaoke
