If it's a West Indian shower, you can't go wrong with music by Beres Hammond . You can also play music by Sanchez, Buju B., Gyptian (Hold You), Tarrus Riley (She's Royal), etc. You can also play mainstream R and B Music. Just stick with mainstream music and you'll be fine.

No, that will not be good enough. Make sure you bring a CD player with you, because they will have the newest shit with them, on mixed CDs. No names, no labels. I rip everything they give me, don't know what it is, just rip. This way I have it the next time. I also have my own modem, so can use Net-search, or buy it online. These are the tactics I had to use when I was surprised, but you know in advance. Why go through the craziness of having 10 people bringing in CDs, and trying to remember what is what? So ask them for the stuff now, and rip it. This will also give you the chance to get the title & artist correct. The top 40 will be OK, but if the majority are West Indian, they want to hear their stuff. I am not West Indian, but have done enough parties for them to know what they like. Meaning I don't know, so I ask them.

I just played a party with the same criteria on Saturday, with the exception that it was a birthday party and had a packed dance floor considering the space limitation. He should first ask the person who hired him if there is anything in particular that they'd like to hear, but the artists / songs I listed will definitely point him in the right direction. Another thing to consider is that if it's a baby shower, he will more than likely just be providing background music.
