I have no problem with the sync button, I use it a lot, but not all the time! Yet my concern is not buttons, but rocking the crowd! So if it helps me achieve my goal, then I'm all for it!

I use it sometimes for pitch adjust when I've just loaded a new song
I'm just being lazy really, I might as well look at the BPM's and use the pitch buttons - at least when the BPM's ar right.
(BTW, am I the only one who gets a little happy when I know 2 songs will mix, but one of the BPM's are off, so I have to actually listen to the tempo and adjust accordingly, like in the old days? Feels like you are beating technology a little bit :-))
I never the sync button use it for actual sync'ing when i'm mixing the song. It makes me feel off and out of control if I don't do it manually

Not the only one mate, +1 to that!
For instance, having a pumpin house tune and mixing in something that's a bit of an oldie classic (either the actual track or words)... A lot of the time I have to move the pitch fader and the jog wheels and then fine tune it to get it to flow right (it can be a couple of BPM out from the scanned number)... That's why I map buttons on my controllers to step up smaller amounts on the pitch fader to get it spot on.
I would only use sync as a shortcut to match the BPM before I start playing the track, if I'm running majorly low on time to get it in i.e. someone up with a request and I lose time (but theres more chance I'll give a "sorry just gotta drop this next one" if someone came up for a request)

I don't use sync, personally, as I came from CDJ's, so I use my ears - to the degree that I removed the CBG from the skin I use.
I don't berate others for using it, each to their own and as far as degrading the art...nah...talent will always shine through...give a top DJ rubbish gear and he'll/she'll still make the night something to remember, give a tool full pro gear and he/she will still be rubbish

Use sync if you need it but don't depend on it.
I don't use sync at all. (If you hear my mixes you can probably tell that I don't) but I have no issue with someone that does as long as they don't depend on it to mix. I am an advocate of learning your trade and for me, that means being ABLE to mix without sync weather you use it or not.

I only use the sync button to quickly match the BPM, not to beat match. I do the beat match by ear.

I use a 4 deck skin. I use sync button all the time. All the music in my musics library are properly programed to use this feature. If I have a song with tempo problem. I use Ableton to warp the track and program it for Virtual DJ. I don' t care If you don' t use it. That' s my prerogative!
I do know how to manually beatmatch, but my mixes are more complexed than just taken time beatmaching. I have a great deal of layers going on at once, no time to fool around!

yea i hear, well i didnt start off with Vinyl, i actually learn by using Cds but now a days i can also spin on vinyl. they are different feels. and i agree with you on the fact that we have to adpat to the new technology being made, however that does not mean that the art of mixing should change cause there is a technical aspect to follow in order to achieve a great mix instead of just pressing sync and mixing. if everyone is a dj then its bad for the job market. i seen to amny guys get gigs for 50 bucks and they dont have a clue as to what they are doing they just blast music and THINK THEY r mmixing while the pros have to lower there prices to compete. and well dj gear is $$$$$ and many of the sync buttun users dotn even own gear just there laptops hooked up to speakers. iam down with this new digital ear but i also feel that djin is a hands on thing not just clicking on VDJ or any software that offers sync. to be a dj a good dj it is my firm believe that you must know how to actually mix with out the sync.

Yo thats sounds like a personal issue you are having with your self. You as a DJ should not care about any Tom, Dick or Harry DJing and who is trying to be a DJ. It doesnt effect your pockets financially so let it go and why worry about it? Just remember at one point in out DJ Careers we were ALL beginners. Remember that! As far as getting the $50.00 gigs,,,,hey in America it is everyman for himself. If "the Pros" are that good then people will not just go with the cheaper price they will go with the quality of the DJ. So when a non-DJ gets a gig he or she may not get another one depending on the quality of their skills which then opens the markiet back up for "pro DJs"

Last night we played our pool league game at one of the so called local 'Dive' bars of which we have many lol. It is their 'Toonie Tuesday' cheap beer night, bonus for us (btw, a 'Toonie is a Canadian $2 coin)
Girl hops in the DJ Booth to spin some tunes at 10:30pm & couldn't 'beat' mix herself out of a paper bag, but she was a great DJ! WHY? You ask I say that?
Because she played kick ass tunes all night. That my friends is what matters!

i personally use the sync button when the BPMs are super close, like if i have one at 129.00. and the other at 126.00, i adjust the pitch slider of the second one until its close, like 129.20 or 128.90. when they are that close i just use the sync button to finish the work.
So it is pretty useful. glad i got out of the habit of using it for EVERYTHING.
