I use the B-52 Matrix 1000v2 and love them. I got them with stands, cables and free shipping for $710.

The matrix sytem sounds nice but you have to bring the sub with you even if its a small party. The Sub alone is 120 pounds. Id rather use two separate powered speakers and have the option of bring the sub if i need it for a big party. The Speakers for the matrix system is not powered because the amps are inside the subwoofer.

Not interested in the matrix - that sub is a beast !

i always love the sound of the b52's.. the only thing that kept me from buying them was that you have to bring that sub,, but they sound great

I own 2 Carvin LS15a\'s They are the powered version and push 350W RMS / 700W Peak. Great sound, honestly the low end on these models could be better. I purchased the LS1801Na 18\" Subwoofer as well (also powered version). Indoors this sub adds the perfect amount of low end to even out the system. Outdoors requires a little more balancing but still sounds pretty good. These have a 4yr warranty as well (not bad). Caliente actually recommended these for me as they fit my budget. I\'m really happy with them. I read above he recommended the QSC k12\'s. The man knows his music So I would have to believe these speakers are good as well. In my opinion powered speakers are easier to set up and hall around. This is a decision you want to spend a lot of time researching as returning speakers you don\'t like will be a major hassle with lots of shipping costs. Choose wisely my friend, good luck, and don\'t worry. If you do your research you will find the perfect pair for you!

Never heard of Carvin's before - will definitely look into them. Grad school has kept me in all week after work so hope to get out and listen to a few options this weekend.
Looked up the carvins - are they really as light as they say? 25lbs for the mains and 58lbs for the Subs. seems ridiculous.
Looks like i could get a set of 2x LM12 mains + 2x LS1801 subs for about $2100 with shipping and cables. If they are as good as you say that would be a steal.
If anybody has heard both the Carvin and QSC speakers I would love to know what you think - I don't believe Carvin has any stores where I live to listen to them at. :(
Especially comparing the Carvin LS1801 powerd sub to the QSC HPR151i or HPR181i
Could I get a single LS1801 and be ok and use the extra $400 to go towards a Numark NS7fx?

theres nothing like having multiple inputs and EQ controld on the back - just in CASE...as a backup for ceremonies, dancing, if your mixer dies, cocktail hour, guest musician, etc
That said, you will generally find that the more professional, more powerful powered speakers dont have these features - they are very stripped down, and use-specific. which sucks, imo
Carvin LM15a has very flexible and customizable input mixing features - LM, but sonically they arent QSC or Mackies.
There may be a magic combination out there - any other ideas folks?
PS _ if u buy original italian/rcf vintage srm450's - beware - unless you modify the heat dissopation on ther internal transistors, they often shut down from inadequate cooling in the sun/outdoor gigs, or when on their side as monitors

I t did look nice to have all those inputs and eq setting right in the back of the box. that was one reason I like the qsc over the JBL PRX speakers the ability to plug into the back with an emergency mp3 player. Using a headphone -> RCA cable
I am most concerned with sound quality and weight though - along with the availability of matching components later ( probably get 1 sub now and get a 2nd matching one later so i can get rid of the tripods ) - a negative for the qsc stuff because they don't make a 15" sub anymore the HPR151i are not widely available in the used market yet. And my car won't fit 2 18" subs.
This most likely will come down to a battle between:
2x JBL PRX515 or PRX512 + 1x PRX518S
vs.
2x QSC K10 + 1x QSC HPR151i
I plan on running my full output to the subs, using their internal HPF to send signals to the mains at 100hz <
even though the prx515 could hand the lower frequencies I would like to get the cleanest mid-range possible. I don't foresee doing gigs without a sub, then again i have only done a couple so far and they all were events looking for dance music all night.
I can get either of these setups for the same price.
I really appreciate all the input tah has been provided so far.

Just a heads up on Mackie currently, I have a pair of v1 450's and 2 of the 18" subs from a few years back, the SWA18, I am looking to upgrade as its just time for something new, but was talking to a friend of mine who works at Guitar Center and he was telling me that the quality of Mackie has gone way down. They used to be built in Woodinville, Washington, but are now being produced in various warehouses in China... the quality has gone so bad he doesn't even recommend them anymore. They have had numerous returns on them because of the amps also.
It is sad to say a brand that was known for quality is on its way down.

If anyone is looking for a very good powered subwoofer without breaking the back. Go with the Harbinger. They are made by B52. I heard these subs and they sound just alittle lower than a QSC KW181. The harbingers hit hard and give very good bass responce. The Harbingers are 700 watts Rms. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Harbinger-HP118S-Powered-Subwoofer-105471353-i1478660.gc

I have decided to go with the QSC K10's and HPR151i - they are easy to carry and set up and the seller is throwing in a BBE MaxCom which really brings out the detail in the music. The sound quality is far superior to the peaveys I was using and I think all 3 speakers including the sub are lighter than the pair of TLS-2 with the Crown Amp. The peaveys are only 12" but they are SOLID! OK so that's a stretch but the hpr151 is about 30 lbs less than my JBL and much easier to deal with. Look forward to many years of good sound :)
Thanks for all the input.
I think my back will love me for going from a 260lb setup -> 160lb setup :)

I bought it from Musiciansfriend.com. There was a 10 percent off coupon for signing up for their newsletter. I'm sure you can still get it for around that price.

Hi Mate, I can also throw in my 2 penneth. I have a db technologies setup after listening to all of the speakers you mentioned. I work for a sound engineering company (Adlib Audio) and we build speakers for the JBL professional intall range and we also build our own pro speakers. We have the facilities to test all of these speakers in various situations, that is why I chose the db 402d\\\'s due to the size, cost, loudness and unbelievable clarity even at high volume. The Sub 05\\\'s will do for now as I have had them slightly limiting on a recent 400 person gig with about 300 of them directly in front of them on the dancefloor, but I am going to upgrade to the sub 15\\\'s (800w rms) when I feel it\\\'s absolutely necessary. Plus, I couldnt afford our own speakers even on a staff discount!
