Hello all,

I have a bit of a problem with a blown Peavey PV-1500 amp...

It happened while I was away celebrating my birthday, but despite that it's still me who needs to sort it out!

Anyway, the ratings of the Peavey are as follows:

500W RMS at 4 Ohms per channel
300W RMS at 8 Ohms per channel

The price is around £430... Which is no suprise as it was a good amp.

Now, I have recently got some Kam cordless mics that I think (so far) compete pretty well with my Shure... In addition I have a small Kam amp that gives out a decent sound. I have seen a Kam amp for about £180 (huge difference) with the following spec:

500W RMS at 4 Ohms per channel
340W RMS at 8 Ohms per channel

Everything else between the amps is pretty much the same too, circuit/overload/overheat protection and frequency responses etc.

Is there really any reason not to get the Kam amp? If it can give as much of the Peavey for less than half the price, surely there is no reason...

Si

Check the THD

What speakers are you running with your amp? That makes a BIG difference in which amp to get.

Personally, I'd avoid KAM like the plague. Working in the disco retail business, I've heard way too many stories about KAM's failure rate compared to other budget manufacturers...

Plus if you ever want to upgrade and sell/part ex your amp, Peavey holds it's value pretty well, you'd have no trouble getting a good price for it on the secondhand market.

Hi Mate
What actualy happened to your amp? The Peavey amps (Not to be confused with PV which are Peaveys cheeper range of products) Like the CS series are very well built, solid performance tools. The KAM amps can do a job but just do not bear comparisson with them. When buying equipment there are some manufacturers who have developed a reputation for build and relyability. This reputation is hard erned and comes from the professionals who use them day in and day out for years. Power amps mada by Peavey,QSC,Crown,Crest,Cloud,Carver and so on are built to last. Unfortunately i have heard some bad reports relating to the PV range of amps and also speakers.

If something seems to good to be true. Walk away. Kam are a budget manufacturer who produce reasonable products that are built down to a price. Nothing wrong with that and I think Peavey have done the same with the PV range. Problem is when you do this, as a manufacturer and then have quality issues people loose faith.

I would look at a second hand amp from any of the quality manufacturers before buying a cheepie new one. Amps from the likes of QSC and Crown come with a serious no fault warranty which is well worth having.

good luck
