As some of you know I use turntables and timecodes............well over the last few months I have stumbled on some deals for a couple of different midi controllers. First I got the Numark MixMeister and with the help from Simon the thing is badass!! Next I picked up a Hercules RMX and with the help of DJDAD I have it tweaked to my liking and its another great unit!! Now as of Friday I picked up the Numark Mixdeck. I took that out on a 5 hour gig lastnight and it was flawless, well all for the scratching in midi mode (anyone wanna give me some settings to try)......... I have always said timecodes were the way to go and you should stick to the old school ways but after playing around with these units I now SEE the benefits to a controller!! I have no more drifting, which was a big problem with the timecodes, everything is more at my fingertips,(effects, etc etc....) all around it just seems to be less work. So with that all said I what to thank everyone here for making my switch pretty much painless!! I will NEVER part with any of my turntables but I doubt they'll be lugged around any time soon, lmao!!! So now im just waiting for more info on Gemini's CDMP-7000, hopefully the crossfader is midi so I can get back to videos and sell these other toys, lol!!
Thank You all, this truly is a great forum!!

I own turn tables, they are collecting dust in the garage. Controllers ARE the way to go. Easy to carry, and intuitive to use. Glad to see you're coming around... ;^)

I saw the light with the Alcatech RCP2001A controller in 2001, then the Denon HC4500 and now the Denon MC6000 which is absolutely brilliant.
Although I did use turntables for many years, the compact nature and accuracy of controllers were what attracted me.
I really couldn't (and still can't) understand people who use TC to emulate vinyl through a PC when they could just be using vinyl.
Never mind, the future is here and this will finally be the year of the controller. Bring it on!

Thanks Tearemup and Keith!! @Seana I got the MixMeister for 50 bucks the RMX for 180 bucks and the Mixdeck for 500 bucks. The Gemin is supposed to be around a grand. The thing I love about this Mixdeck is that in the middle of my set I can mix off of VDJ on 1 deck and on the other mix off a cd or a flash drive!! The CDMP-7000 can do the samething just hoping the mixer section is midi, well atleast the crossfader anyways.

The mixdeck is an excellent and flexible piece of kit for the money.

Just my personal preference with controllers: Either have 2 or have them modular. That way you don't have a catastrophic failure during an Event
I use a DMC2 and have a DAC2 as backup

I used Turntables for years, but once I found out about these new controllers, I knew it was only a matter of time before I made the transition myself, lo! Now I just used the RMX and done flawless sets with it! Still a little off with scratching because of the size of the wheels, but still can pull a rabbit out the hat!

Inviato Mon 14 Feb 11 @ 10:55 am
Umm ..........wouldn't it be the same as vinly timecodes Charlie?? Not all cdj's can be used as midi controllers.

Controllers are better today then ever, I believe we will continue to see shifts like this more and more, especially as these once purists get older and realize they don't need to carry all this crap or aren't physically able to.

Huey,
I played with the Mixdeck before and I will certainly be investing in it within the next month or two!

@Coach, when in midi mode the scratchin sucks but I found a work around which works for me. I've burned 2 cd's with my scratch samples on them and just leave them in so when it comes time to scratch I just switch to cd throw down my scratches then switch back to midi mode. I tried it using a flash drive but it took longer to read then I liked, doable but just takes a little longer to load up. Although the Mixdeck is nice you might want to check out Gemini's CDMP-7000, same format but with a 3 channel mixer. As soon as that drops ill probably be picking that up granted the reveiws are good!

I saw your FB post and how happy you were with the mixdeck. You were like a kid at Xmas! lol.
Is the mixdeck that nice of a unit? The only reason I ask is that they are plastered all over the classified sites, like people bought them up and they had problems with them or something. They're not a cheap unit brand new, at least not for a hobby DJ. Just trying to figure out why the sudden dump of these on the market. Don't get me wrong, I trust your judgment Huey.
I just don't think I can wait till June to wait for the NS6. That's the baby I've been waiting for.

Like I said it was flawless!! When I first got it that night I sat there and ran all my soundcards with it (SL3, AUDIO 8 DJ, MAYA 44) all work well with timecodes (incase I have to use Serato) next I ran VDJ and keep switching from midi to cd to flash drives on both decks just to see if it would freeze up and it never did. The only thing I have done is change a few of the mappings and burn my scratch samples to a cd. Other then those things its been good. So good the RMX with the flight case is hitting ebay tonight, lol!! No foreal its outta here. But also like I said I got my eye on that CDMP-7000! So if that thing is just as good you'll be seeing this thing up on ebay aswell!! Lmao! Ill try to make a video tonight, anything in particular you wanna see?? Let me know........
Huey
Oh yeah also a selling point for me was that it can read flash drives, we throw HipHop shows and the groups will usually have their tracks on a flash drive. There's been a few times I've plugged the drive into my laptop and boom I got a frickin virus!!! Yes I don't have an anti virus crap on my laptop. But now I don't have to worry about that crap!!! Yeah I win, lmao!!

Just a full on view of the controller with some scratching and some looping functions would be great Huey! The video's that are out there are just too damn quick on the functions and don't show much into the actual mixing. They're more like "Hi, I'm Gus from Numark. This is the mixdeck. it does everything. This is Gus from Numark thanx for watching." Pretty lame vids out there. So a little more in depth on the functions and layout as well as the construction and feel would be cool.
As always, thanx for everything.

Hey BeatBreaker, I just checked out a video on the CDMP-7000. I was also hoping for a MIDI mixer section or even better a MIDI / Analog hybrid but the Gemini rep states the Mixer is fully analog on this video bellow.

Look at 5:06 and 5:59 of the video.

Huey,
Good looking out on that scratching tip, I will certainly be looking into that myself. Also, I heard about the Gemini's CDMP-7000 at a DJ show, Looks like a good piece of equipment. Yet I want to see the reviews on it as well! I thought about the NS7, but as much as I love it, that joint is so heavy it's like logging a bag of bricks.
