Topic: Would this work? (Time code vinyl)

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hello there, I have been djing for 4 or 5 months now and I have to say I absolutely love it! I know I'm not the best, far from it, but I enjoy it a lot. Anyways, my question is I have a hercules dj control mp3 e2 and I want to know if I could buy a Numark Battlepack (eww I know) setup virtual vinyl on them but use my hercules as the mixer. Also is the Numark dm950 compatible with virtual dj? (Just wondering but I want to use my hercules since it has effects, and the dm950 doesn't as far as I can see)

One more question, are loops, cue, and sync are supported with virtual vinyl?

You would only be able to use the Hercules for timecode control if it has two stereo inputs on the unit (with a ground point), as you need to run the timecode signal from the vinyl into the computer then the vdj sound signal back out to your speakers. for this you need at least 4 ins and 4 outs.

Have a look on the back of the unit, if you don't have the right connections you would need another external soundcard and you could use the hercules as a midi controller for the mixer. Personally I use the audio 8 and highly recommend it, but if you don't have the cash you could just get an audio 4 to replace the herc or an audio 2 for timecode ins and use the herc for the outs in advanced config

Also you need to upgrade to pro for using a timecode signal and using advanced config to set up a different soundcard.

The hercules has no inputs/outputs, only a standard b usb female socket. I'll look into the audio 2, however I'm also going to look into a cheaper one.
Another option I thought of was maybe having the m1 mixer that comes with the battle pack as my main mixer but having the hercules to control effects. Would this work? Also are loops and cue spots compatible?

whatever you do don't get the numark battle pack with the tt1650's they are belt driven so not really ideal for djing you want direct drive, before i got 1210's i had american audio htd 4.5 if you are looking I highly recommend them for beginner to intermediate mixing or any level of scratching (they have 4.5kg of torque) I picked them up off ebay for $400 a couple of years ago then sold them for that last year :)

now that that is said, I don't believe he numark m1 has an internal soundcard, so no it wouldn't work, if you want a cheaper option check out the maya 44, huey used to swear by it. finally yes you can use any midi controller to control any function of vdj, so you could use both the m1 and the herc at the same time to control anything you like. If you scratch, I very very highly recommend getting an innofader for the mixer, I had a numark dxm06 sitting in the bottom of my cupboard until last week when I installed the innofader, now it cuts better than a ttm57 it's like butter LOL!

The battlepack has tt1625s which are direct drive.
I was thinking about buying the numark x2 hybrid and just forget about timecode vinyl. Do you know of any mixers with good effects that are relatively cheap?

wow I always thought the 1650's were belt driven... I had a go on a mates a few years ago that's what they felt like and that's what he told me... I have only had 2 mixers. the first was the numark dxm 06 and the pioneer djm 600,

the dxm 06 is the predecessor to the x6 mixer, it has on board effects which are laid out exactly the same, they are really intuitive to use in that layout and have both beat synced and non synced effects, If you are just beginning this can be a lot of fun to play with in your room getting used to adding effects, that's all well and good, but they are very limiting and cheap sounding when you turn the volume up. the unit knobs and faders had a plasticy feel, but never really had an issue with them until I knew there were better options. On a good day I have seen these go for $40 on ebay

The second mixer the djm 600, has effects, 4 channels, and it was the club standard when I got it, although it has now been well and truly superseded, it is a fairly solid mixer which you could probably pick up used for around $300, the effects are better than the dxm in sound quality, but less user friendly, in that it doesn't feel like you have as much control over the effects. Personally I got bored of those effects so I bought an pioneer efx 1000 and run it through send on the djm, the efx is awesome to play with.

If I were you I would probably stick to the onboard effects of vdj and use you hercules to control the parameters and just use a normal no effect mixer, but I would make sure it offered a send/return, in case you want to get external hardware like kaoss pad, or efx later down the line. If I was going to get another mixer it would be an allen and heath xone 92, they only have one effect, a filter but it is pristine, and after a while that's the only effect that gets any use. If you see a xone 22 (2 channel) on ebay going cheaply get it its better than pioneer 400 or any other mixer in terms of sound and build quality.

Alright so I would need to get 2 numark tt1625s,1 mixer, (I was thinking the numark m2) ni audio 2, time code vinyl, and my hercules.

How does this get setup? Theres tons of tutorials on it but since I'm using the hercules does that change anything?

seriously the numark 1650's are shit, they have no torque so they are really light to the touch and therefor really hard to beat match on, I would stay away from them, you will end up regretting it. Nah if your using timecodes you need to have two stereo inputs and two stereo outputs, so you would need at least an audio 4, a cheaper option is torq connective, maya 44, maybe the hercules one but i have never seen the price. you also have the option of selling yours and getting a hercules rmx which has a built in sound card, on a good day on ebay you could get one for $200 (it has a built in sound card so turntables will just plugin.

If your going with timecodes with your hercules, it is only a midi controller, so you could use that with the internal vdj mixer until you buy a mixer, or you could get an analog mixer and just map your herc so it is just for effects, cues, whatever you like...

The M2 is just an analog mixer, honestly i wouldn't get that... Although I didn't speak very highly about the dxm 06, I never regretted buying it when I had it, my ears are just better now, If I were you i would try to pick up one off ebay, or if buying new a numark X6.

Lastly you need to upgrade your le version of vdj, because only pro will support timecodes

Alright thanks for your help! :)
