One Ext. for Vid's, One Ext. for Karaoke, internal for audio...

Joey...

sort of the same set meself mate but cant fit allmy vids on one hd thats where im worrying if to many hds will cause problems...
thing is i dont play one sort of music / vids i do all from 50s to now being a party dj

I been using two external drives for years with no problems, if you have toooo many vid's then move certain types of video from Ext. drive #1 to Ext. Drive # 2, which I also had to do for the same reason as you, till I have the need to get a larger replacement for my vid's, meanwhile I manage with what I have....

Here's some recommendations on harddrives..

Reliable workhourse, Not Cheap, but in the long run.... it is..

dont mean to hijack this topic but does storing your music and vids on external hard drives effect the performance on you laptop...
does it effect Vdj performace (slow it down) or do they suck lots of juice from the computers resources?

Ter?

if your going to use external hd for music or videos i would suggest using a powered usb hub as then you are only transfering data from hd and hub does not suck your lapyops cpu(or im lead to believe) but i havent had any probs with my karaoke / vids ect and keep my music on internal drive alaways and a copy on hd.

I use an external on a powered USB hub 3 nights a week and have yet to have any problems.

happy days lads thanks
but which hubs are ye using?

off hand think mine is a 4 port kensington....not sure but as long as its compatible with your lappy dont think it matters but maybe someone else will chime in lol.
i got my one because it compatible with both my windows and mac

If you use 2 external hard drives, just be aware that most drives fell asleep after a while of not being used. Just prepare videos with time, do not rush the next video to be displayed, it may come from the sleeping drive and had a 1 or 2 second delay.

Enjoy

PS. The new Western Digital 3TB 3.0USB (USB 2.0 compatible) works great and may help to overcome the need for two different ready drives. I now since I had surpassed the capacity of my 2TB drives (1 plus 2 back ups) and now all my videos fit in the 3TB.
