Topic: Filters

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I've set up some filters in VDJ but unable to get them to do exactly what I want at the moment.
For example I often enter data into the comment field such as "biggie", "party", "background" and so on. Problem is that some tracks may also have some other data in the comment field and then the filter won't pick up the track.

So for the filter "comment = party" it picks up all of the tracks that only have the word "party" in the comment field but it won't pick up any tracks that have for example "party, biggie".

Is there another way of coding it that would overcome that? could the word "contains" be used for example?

Hopefully the above makes sense; I obviously know what I mean, but I realise that I may not have explained it in an easy to understand way!

If you use comment = party then the comment must be set exactly to party for it to be shown in the filter folder.

Try using comment contains "party" instead.

Many thanks for that; that's exactly what i was looking for.

One more question; is there a way of setting up a filter to find empty fields?
i.e. for all entries that have nothing entered in the genre field or in the album title etc?

I think this can be done in the browser window.....you tick the fieds you want to be shown..and with a tick on the upper genre ccolumn for example...field the empty results comes first...I know my english aint the best...sorry

You can try these 2 filter folders for your empty fields winyard:

comment is ""
title is ""

Let me know if that works :)

superaceman,

I hope you can further this thread a bit more for me. I have tried all the boolean logic I know to join two characters in the comments field. For example I am looking for things like this:

Comments contains "5" and "!"

or

Comments contains "sick" and "!" and "5"

Any help is desperately needed and appreciated.

Does that solve your problem?

You sir are a men among men!

...and just sold 2 more copies of VDJ as a result.

Thank you!

Until recently I've been using Media Monkey ... yes I know its a media player rather than DJ software, but it does have custom comment fields x 5 :)

Ive been using Custom 1 for the type of dance i might play the track at ... blues, jive, tango, wcs (=west coast swing) etc and this might have more than one designation eg blues, wcs

Custom 2 = where i got onto the track, a friends name, a venue, radio station etc - often blank if I cant remember

Custom 3 = when I acquired the track ... generally cleared after 6 months.

Now trying VDJ and it seems to report the highest custom field with an entry in as the comment ... so if I search for say blues ... if there is nothing in custom 2 or 3 it retuns the track, but if its something that I've added recently, with a date in custom 3, then this supercedes the information in custom 1 and the search doesn't find the track...

Any ideas

What you are experiencing is an ID3 tag issue more than a filter folder issue (as the previous posters have requested scripts for such).

That being established, use the 'comment field' of Media Monkey to write your information since that is universal to all ID3 tags which the programs both read. The problem with custom fields is that they usually don't interact with other programs that well (as you have found).
