I have been approached my a local company and asked if they could "Rent" my turntables and a mixer....... There flying in a female dj, don't know the name yet, but I guess she's not bringing her stuff so they have to find the equipment. It's a friend of mines and he works for the company but business is business. They want to know how much I would charge them.......this is where I'm having trouble. I will have a contract wrote tomorrow saying the basic stuff, anything gets lost, damaged or broke they are held responsible and will have to replace or repair in a timely fashion. That's no big deal. But what should I charge as a rental fee??? Here's what they'll be getting, 2 chromed out TECHNIC 1200 MK 2's and an Ecler NUO 4 MIDI mixer and maybe ill have to bring my SL3, not sure though. I have doubles of everything but the SL3, have the SL1 but I never use it anymore. So if something did happen I can still gig.
So what do I charge?? Keep it in reason please, lol! Oh yeah its only for 1 night about 7/8 hours I think
Thanks for looking and the time aswell as any info you can spare

This is how DJ stores that rent equipment do it. They charge 10 % of what each piece cost. If your mixer cost 700 bucks, you charge 70 dollars.

I charge $40 a piece, I drop everything off and pick everything up, and if the party's good stick around and have a mix, If you match the shops price they will probably pass on hiring from you and go with the rental company who probably offer better equipment... cdj2000's in aus are $70 each, $200 for 2 2000's and an 800 mixer...

I personally would take offense to a request like this. Why are they flying in a DJ? Do the fine citizens of Sioux City know her? Is she a big name? Will she draw a crowd? Isn't there any local talent (i.e. YOU) available?
There is a club here that has black listed myself and another guy simply because the lady that books the entertainment does not like us. They have actually brought in a dj from Minneapolis TWICE and they don't even think he does a good job to avoid having to call me or this other guy. I would call your "friend" and explain that if he wants to book your gear, the only way is to book YOU. I would also suggest that if they intend on "flying in" outside talent, they should be prepared with all the gear needed. Tell him he can drive to Sioux Falls or Omaha and go buy the gear at a Guitar Center.

Naw I'm not offended. She's some top dj outta LA so I'm kinda curious as to what her name is. As far as bringing her own equipment that's not really that uncommon. Lots of touring djs will only bring their laptop and maybe their mixer, atleast in my experiences. Like when the Game came to Sioux Falls there dj didn't bring anything but in the contract he had stated what kind of equipment he needed. I am invited to the party and I can throw down if want so its not really that big of deal.
Thanks for the time

If someone wants to bring another dj from anothe state or country and the want to rent my equipment.. Why not. I wouldnt ask why they didnt use my service etc. When you start asking too many questions etc, they are not going to deal with you anymore.

Won't she be needing an opening act? Someone to warm up the crowd?

I live in Halifax Nova Scotia. When the first Pioneer CDJ-1000 units first came out and started being popular with the pro DJs, I had the only set in Atlantic Canada. Chris Shepard was in town playing at a club and wanted to rent a set of CDJ-1000s. They were not available yet from any of the rental shops. Through a friend of a friend, I was contacted and rented out my 2 units for $250 for the night. I have them signed by him. Also, Darude has rented my units as well when he played here at the Rain Club. I got $250 for that night as well.
The downside is that my CDJs are more famous than I am, sigh.
