Currently using a Hercules RMX but thinking of upgrading to the American Audio VMS4, mainly due to its capabilities of being able to work without the use of a laptop (good for when the laptop crashes etc). I also have some other AA equipment and this is working really well.
Just wondered if anyone out there has one of these and what sort of review you would give it?
Cheers Paul

It'd be advisable to wait for the release of the new 'Traktor version' of the VMS4, because there have been internal hardware modifications to improve all the flaws the original had.
You buy an original VMS4 at your own risk!

I have the 1st Gen VMS 4 and yes I had to send it in to get fixed...The replaced the right side pitch fader and the X fader..also in the 1st gen models the Mic's were bad!! REAL BAD!!! but not on all Models...they gave us adaptord to fix the Mic problems.
Now on the Newer Models with Tractor..All the problems were supposed to be fixed!!
I am VERY happy with mine!! As for the Sound card its OK but not the best. if you have a week sound system your going to struggle to get great sound!! Other then that its a great Unit and I can't complain for the price I paid for it!!

Aside from the hardware problems with it I've heard that you can't just install the drivers you also have to install VDJ LE which seems kind of stupid if you already own VDJ Pro.
But I haven't used one personally, I just thought about buying one and read a lot on the American Audio forums. Ended up deciding against it. For a couple hundred extra I think I'd get the Denon.

Not True!! The reason at the time you installed LE was to get the automtic updater for the VMS4 firm ware / drivers. BUT you can install either firmware or drivers manully and no need to install LE

Oh, ok. Thanks for the clarification. And that's why these message boards are so handy. :)

i use one and it was more easy to set up than a behringer BCD 3000, it took me like 20 min to set up download iso drivers and firmware update to have it playing with no problems against about a week and a halve to have the Bcd3000 figured out and to have it play whit no problems. VMS4 is low in master output and the microphones input needs an impedance transformer that american audio provides free of charge, unit is solid and controls very well layed out. even with the flaws this first gen controllers has i am very happy with it.
