Topic: SBDJ Slideshow issue

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

In general, I LOVE using this plugin. However, this past Saturday, I set it to scroll through a folder of .jpg files, maybe 30 or so, when I was playing audio only files. It would scroll through these pictures to the end, and then STOP, when it should have restarted. I had to reopen manually and restart the show, all night.

Am I missing a setting to have it repeat?

Not sure what caused the OPs issue. Is it possible it was getting stuck on a file it couldn't read properly or something?

The above post is the first I've heard of any crashing issue? No one else has it AFAIK.

I've double checked, and it still freezes on a specific picture in the folder (#63 of 170 pictures). Wow... it turns out that I only played about a third of the pictures in that folder, all night, because whenever it would freeze, I'd start over. How can I determine which .jpgs are "bad" vs. ones that are fine? Is there a way to tell, or better yet.. fix it? Any recommendations?

Is there a limit to how many pictures should be in a folder?

Is there something wrong with one of the .jpgs that would explain why it stopped on that one? If so, how can I identify and correct it?

No limit.

If it froze on a particular picture then there is obviously something it didn't like, presumably with the next picture in sequence. I don't ever recall coming across this before but it's been a while since I've used that version! I'm sure it skipped over problem files, but I could be mistaken.

I've got an unfinished new-and-improved version sat here that I'll try and get finished up.

It would be helpful if you could identify the problem file and then send it to me :)

I'd be happy to send #63, and #64 from this folder. I'm guessing #64 is the problem, if the slides stop at #63.

What version do you use, or recommend now? I like SBDJ slideshow, because it displays the correct aspect ratio, regardless of the photo size, as compared to the standard slideshow.

How can I send you these .jpgs?

I use a beta of my updated copy. I'll try and get it finished soon!

I'll drop you a PM with my email address.

Thank you.

Scott,
A while back we spoke about your slideshow not releasing priority over the second screen, and it would cause my karaoke program I would use following the slideshow to crash. You had mentioned that your newer version most likely had fixed that sort of event. Any chance you can email me your beta too. I was assuming you were sending the other fellow a beta.

No beta available yet I'm afraid.

I've just had a look at the sample files sent to me - it is indeed 65 that is causing the issue. My newer version skips over it as DirectX returns an invalid data error when trying to load it. The current version seems to get stuck on it like you said. I opened it in an editor and resaved it and it worked fine.

Still got loads of work to do on v2 but I'll bump it's priority up a bit.

What do you mean by "it is indeed 65", Scott?

He means that a particular .jpg (#65) from a folder of .jpgs is "the problem" which caused SBDJ slideshow plugin to freeze on me. All of these pictures were given to me by the clients. Scott, after I sent it to you, I found three others that also "freeze" the slideshow. I can send those also, if that's helpful.

Can you tell me what's "wrong" with the picture, that causes my issue? Is there a way to tell, in advance which pictures the slideshow plugin won't "like" from a folder, and better yet, how can it be corrected? Having to babysit this plugin in this manner live at an event, having to restart or revamp a slideshow "on the fly" renders it almost useless to me, as it's become so much work that I might as well be showing individual picutures manually.

Please advise.

I honestly don't know, I will have a more detailed look.

I might be able to patch the current slideshow version to fix the issue - DirectX is rejecting the file even though it is valid.

So, if you remove these 4 files, does everything run smoothly?

Inviato Tue 28 Jun 11 @ 4:10 pm
Yes, once I remove the "bad" jpgs, it works great.

I just don't know what makes these "bad", or how to fix or at the very least IDENTIFY "bad" jpgs, so I can work around them.

Scott... thank you for your continued investigation into this. Do you need the other "bad" jpgs?

Hi SBDJ: I have a wishlist and a question.

1/ What are the resolution sliders for?
2/ I would like to see a manual "FORWARD" and "REVERSE" for manual slide show presentations.
3/ A "random" check box button would add the option of NOT having the pictures run in alphabetical order.
4/ Fantasy wish: A slow moving zoom for a really cool effect.

Thanks

The resolution sliders effectively allow you to use different aspect ratios by overriding the resolution that the aspect is calculated against.

As for the requests I'm afraid that all public plugin development from me is currently on hold.
