The VCI-100 controls the software and will play any format that VirtualDJ supports (including iTunes). Be advised that this controller will only work with VirtualDJ Pro Full which will need to purchased in order to to use it -> http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html
Also as a VCI-100 owner, I can vouch for the controller's performance in the software itself. The unit that I own has been used 3 nights a week in a club atmosphere for the last 2 years and I haven't had a single issue with it. It consistently performs flawlessly and the build of the controller is solid.

Heres the list of supported hardware, these alot more but these are the most common I guess, http://www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html
Really its gonna come down to what you can afford and what type of mixing you wanna do. Easier said then but I would stay away from any 2nd hand controllers. Some controllers come with VDJ le and when you enter the serial number you can get a nice discount on the Pro Version.
Hope that helps
