Topic: What are your thoughts??

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Still doing some homework and research on what gear I should get next, to upgrade from my VMS4...

I was originally looking between a set of TTs (Numark TTXUSB) and a set of CDJs (Pioneer 850s or 800s if I can find a decent used set).

But then noticed a handful of motorized CDJs/controllers. I think I like the Denon DN-S3700 the most, but I also saw the Technic digital TT, and of course there is also the Numark NS7...

So I was just wondering what others thought or how you all felt about motorized units... Are they a good compromise? Not worth the $$? Too many moving parts to be reliable? Or the best of both worlds? ability to control software, mp3s, and CDs is better "bang for the buck"?

I am a part time mobile DJ and I help my friends with their business when they need an extra hand at a gig. I have my VMS4 to practice and keep up my skills as they are. I would like to learn to scratch more to widen my range of skills for technique and transitions. That's why I am considering the TTs, but at the same time I am wondering if for the long run, the motorized units will serve me better?

Any thoughts or input would be a big help!

Thanks!

with scratching, the size is the most important factor when it comes to the jog IMO, the bigger the jog the easier and more precise you can control the transport, but after using static jog midi controllers for a couple of months I can do the same tricks on both with a little adjustment to the technique. but with touch jogs you can control many other parameters either separately or at the same time as scratching. I'm selling my tables and not going back. hopefully vestax make an upgrade on the vci-300 that has more controls for effects and multi coloured leds.

but the most important factor in scratching is the quality of the crossfader and your ability to use it properly, Because you can make a crappy jog sound good with a quality fader but not the other way around.

well that's why I like the VMS4 for me right now. It has the ability to be used as an analogue mixer and I can upgrade the crossfader to an innofader. and then with the TTs or CDJs I can also use timecodes to work with the VDJ software as well, and I dont have to buy a separate I/O (soundacrd) for it to work.

But would the motorized controller/CDJ/TT be a reasonable purchase, or is it just a gimmick and not worth it?

IMO if your not looking at the platter it pretty much feels the same technique wise, but as stated having touch sensitive jogs is absoultly unbeatable for the way I use them, and you cant control other functions like effects parameters with moving platters.

I have a reloop jockey 2, it has a 2 in 4 out soundcard built in if your serious about scratching (hip hop serious) just get an extra deck with timecode vinyl plugged in, but if your that serious (dmc serious) you should just use real records not vdj timecode or maybe traktor or serato. If your just messing around having a bit of fun you can have way more with a little mapping knowlege and static platters.

Your best bet is to try the motorized units out - contrast and compare!

They exist for a reason. Some people prefer to have something which emulates a turntable more closely.

You can get opinions, but they can only help you so far. To truly know what's right for you you'll need to get hands-on.

I prefer motorised units.
