That unit will work with the original software or fully licensed pro only.
If the user can't provide you with a valid, non registered serial number, your only choice is to purchase pro.
If you contact support with the serial number he has, we can tell you if its ever been registered (which can happen only once) and whether or not it has been used to upgrade to Pro.
If by some stroke of luck it hasn't been used to upgrade to Pro, you qualify to use it for a considerable discount on the bottom of the purchase page.
Hope this helps

le is a very stripped down version with less included than home, you can use le for mixing but for anything more advanced than that you need pro. If the controller you buy has an new original unregistered version of le you could get a discount off a pro upgrade.

I will ask you this question:
Would you rather drive a Ferrari Formula 1 car built by one of the most respected and reputable builders in IRL history and backed up by an experienced support team, or take your chances on a sight unseen car that might not even have an engine?
When it comes to race day, I personally want to set myself up for the best chance for success. You want to take it to the next level? By a Pro license. Nobody,
AND I MEAN NOBODY
has ever purchased a pro license and then said ANYTHING about regretting their decision.
#begin rant#
In my opinion, anyone who doesn't respect this business enough to invest in the proper tools, equipment, and time to learn, is nothing more that a no-talent a$$-clown wannabe hack. I have tried to educate these types and sometimes I am able to convince them that there is a right and wrong way. Other times, I just wanna take their Macbook and Beats by Dre headphones and shove them right up their ass.

I "regret" not buying it sooner LOL
but what nutz said is a lie, plenty of people have wished they could get a refund, the only concern though every single time is unsupported hardware, do your research of supported controllers. In home you should be able to go to the mappers tab, hit the box on the left of the dropdown and deselect "only how connected devices", everything on that list will work out of the box, and realize you will need to sit down for a week mapping it before you can use it, but this is really only an issue for the s4, s2 at this stage.

Yup Syn is right there have been Plenty of people who wish they could have a refund and most of the time its because they didn't do there research about a controller they bought. So yes read up on whatever controller it is your thinking of buying and ask plenty of questions before you buy.
Hope that helps and hope to see you as a PRO registered user soon

Thank you guys for clarifying for me. That was the thought in my head, and as I re-read my post I realized that my complete thought didn't quite make it to the page. Perhaps this would be a more accurate way to say it:
It would be nearly impossible to find someone who purchased a Pro license and after using it successfully, decided they wanted a refund.
I will also echo what has been said already:
Try it before you buy it.
