Topic: Master Tempo goes off on its own

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hello everybody,

the following has already been opened as a suppor ticket, but as I haven't received any updates on that, and because I have a gig in 3 days, I thought I would post this here, just in case somebody has an idea on how to resolve.

I'm a legal VDJ 7.0.5. Pro user and used to have a Hercules RMX.

I have recently purchased the Numark NS6 controller and installed the NS6 2.0 skin and map which looks great. The NS6 works perfectly fine except this issue, which unfortunately is a showstopper :(

While listening to a song with a modified tempo (Master Tempo is pressed, so the pitch remains unchanged from the original), while it is playing and everything is fine, suddenly and without even touching the controller or the software, the PITCH changes (as if I didnt have MASTER TEMPO pressed) and the vocals sound like a "smurf" song :)

If I depress master tempo (light goes off) and then press it again (it goes back on), the pitch goes back to normal, but after a few bars, it repeats the same problem.

What is going wrong?

Please help, I have a gig in 3 days and I can't risk having this occur while DJing live ...

Thanks and regards,
Chris

Hello again..

Any ideas guys? I'm really desperate as I have a gig in 2 days.

VDJ support suggested to check if my option of "Auto-Pitch" is enabled, but it is disabled, and keylock is on (although it doesnt show in the NS6 skin).

Any ideas what might be wrong? The Master Tempo, although enabled, goes "off" on its own, without even touching anything, just the song playing....

Totally unreliable during a gig...

Please help... :(

Thanks
Chris

Over each play button there is a padlock, is it gold or shaded?

Lets use the default skin until this is resolved.
If the padlock is gold, click it once to shade it and try again.

the padlock is the keylock and as I said it's enabled.

while the settings are as they are, if I move the tempo slider, the pitch remains the same which is what I want.

while the song is playing with a faster tempo, but steady pitch, suddenly and without touching anything, the pitch goes bananas and is sounding like a chipmunk, as if I disabled the master tempo or keylock.

WITHOUT even touching the laptop or the controller.

this never happened with my RMX, it only happens with the NS6 which is my new controller...

also please note that this doesnt happen all the time, but when it starts, it does it multiple times per song (i.e. when it happens, I press master tempo (even if its ON) to set it to OFF and then back to ON, and the pitch corrects itself. after a few bars, it goes crazy again (again on its own, without touching anything).

it's like something is triggering it, and I'm thinking maybe it's something in the mapping of NS6....

I need to correct this and thoroughly test it before my gig, otherwise I will have to use the RMX instead... I was just very much looking forward to using the NS6 which is WAAAAAAY better and cooler :)

Thanks for helping me on this one !

The key lock is over the pitch sliders, this is a padlock by the play button and is called smart play.
Make sure its shaded and try again.

If you suspect the mapper is causing it, you can reset this on the config/mapper page at the bottom left to the factory settings again.

Thank you for your suggestions, I checked what you said and:

I switched to a basic VDJ skin and the padlock on the play button now shows. It *is* shaded on both decks.

Ok. this is driving me nuts.

First let me describe exactly the sequence of events, maybe you can re-produce it on your site.

1. Before starting up VDJ ( I boot windows, power-up my NS6, everything is ready), my NS6 "pitch" sliders are where I left them off last night, i.e. somewhere between 0 and the max. "+", so the pitch is in "faster" mode lets say. Master-Tempo (i.e. keylock) is *ON*.

2. I start VDJ and the pitch sliders on the screen are on ZERO, which means I have to move the hardware sliders to "match" the screen info. I do that.

3. I load a track, and I move the pitch sliders to the previous position (between 0 and max "+", i.e. faster speed).

4. Push play.

The song starts, and the "TONE" of the vocals are perfect, like the original speed, only the song is faster, which is what I want.

I continue to listen to the track and suddenly, without doing absolutely anything, the *TONE* changes, but this time the tone became "deeper", like playing a 45rpm vinyl on 33rpm

On my previous comments, the exact same thing happened, but the tone was going HIGHER, i.e. sounding like a chipmunk.

While this is happening, the SPEED of the song is the same (i.e. faster as per the position of the pitch slider), and all the LED's (i.e. MASTER-TEMPO, keylock, smart-play etc, remain UNCHANGED, i.e. as they were BEFORE the sudden change of tone).

VDJ is the latest version (v.7.0.5b), controller VDJ file is version 2.0, freshly downloaded and installed while VDJ was not running, NS6 drivers are the latest from Numark site, NS6 firmware was upgraded when I installed ITCH 2 from Serato.

Any ideas guys? Please help...

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Correction:

I should say:
1. Before starting up VDJ ( I boot windows, power-up my NS6, everything is ready), my NS6 "pitch" sliders are where I left them off last night, i.e. somewhere between 0 and the max. "+", so the pitch is in "faster" mode lets say. Master-Tempo (i.e. keylock) was *ON* last night, but now they are NOT lit. When I start VDJ in the next step, they automatically light up.

Ok, I have an update:

Technical support suggested that I uninstall VDJ completely, clean registry etc etc, and reinstall VDJ 7.0.5b and try it again without any skins or mappers.

I slightly "dis-obeyed" this and did NOT remove VDJ, but I *did* move all the skins and mappers into other folders not "viewable" by VDJ.

And I repeated the same procedure which consistently had the same awkward results...

Lo and behold, I've been listening to the same songs that this has been occuring for more than 20 minutes now, and NO issues whatsoever...

One thing that confused me is that although I have removed the NS6 controller file I downloaded from the VDJ site, and I expected that VDJ would not know how to map my NS6 controller, when I went to the mappers option tab, the "Numark NS6" was there and it was selected. So it seems that VDJ 7.0.5b *includes* the necessary mappings for NS6 built-in into the application.

I also used the VDJ 3-1-2-4 skin instead of the "NS6 look-alike" skin.

I then re-installed the NS6 skin (not the mapper) by just moving the two skin files back into the skins folder, and made that the active skin.

No problems still...

So I guess it was the mapper file somehow.

So.... thank you people for all the help, I will revert if this suddenly crops up again.

I'll also try to make it re-appear on purpose (after I do my gig :-) ) and then post the reason this happens so that maybe somebody else with the same issue has this info available.

Again thank you very much,
Kind regards,
Chris

Config -> Performance -> Master Tempo options ...

Which option did you have selected before the re-install? If you remember.

If it was the first option for "Pure Scratch" ... then that is why you had the problem. Pure Scratch does not use the Master Tempo algorithm when using a jog wheel or timecode control solution. It is intended to give you the same sound as if you are using real vinyl. But if you use the pitch sliders or pitchbend button - then Master Tempo is utilized.

Try it and see if you can re-create your original problem ...

I tried both the 2nd and 3rd options, both had the same impact. I never ever had option 1 selected in my life.

I think it's something to do either with the controller mapping file I downloaded from VDJ (cstoll version 2), or by the fact that I had 2 mapping files (the cstoll v2 one, and another one which had something like "with_effects_working" in the filename).

Maybe VDJ gets confused if it has more than 1 mapping file in the "mappers" folder for the same controller? (+1 "internal" to the VDJ application?)

Rgrds,
Chris
