so heres the full story
had snow leopard and never had a prob with virtual dj i use a go flex with the firewire plug so my videos load fast. about a week ago my hard drive in my MAC took a poo on me... so i installed the new hybrid drive 500g and its way faster... now my issue. after i put the new drive and a fresh install of snow leopard and virtual dj7, when my external drive is hooked up and I'm playin if i sit for more then like 2 min without loading a song its like my hard drive kinda goes to sleep. it freezes my virtual dj screen and then it finally loads my song. music never stops playin but all movement on vdj STOPS. i went ahead and did the lion upgrade yesterday and thought it had fixed the prob but tonight at my gig it reared its ugly head all night. I'm using virtual dj pro7 and I've got a stanton scs 3d. I'm usually a video dj but i didn't have to video tonight but i still used the video files it does it on any file mp3 or video
i can't figure out wtf is going on if ne one can help PLEASE

I had this problem with my 1TB. My problem went away on it's own though. The reason VDJ is freezing is because it's trying to access your hard drive or something like that. I read it on some forum. Make sure when you disconnect the hard drive, you "eject" it, instead of just taking the USB or firewire. Another thing you could try is before you open VDJ. Connect your the hard drive then open it in finder. Then try using it in VDJ.

Ohhh yeah now I remember. I switched from my PC laptop to my MacBook so then it would do what you said above but I think once I downloaded the drivers, it worked fine. I know it did for my PC but I downloaded that software before I used it. It should work though. Glad you thought of that!

I've just bought a Seagate 1Tb portable USB powered drive. First weekend I forgot to alter the 'sleep' delay. Had the freezing issue on loading the first video, was OK after that. Back home after the gig I used the manager software supplied with the drive to adjust the timer interval from 3 minutes to 15 minutes of inactivity before the drive goes into 'sleep' mode.
Oh nearly forgot, the manager software supplied was for PC only. I have a boot camped Mac, so, I had to use this software on the PC side.

I don't know if this will help, but Mac VDJ doesn't play well at all with NTFS drives. Make sure you're using HFS+ drives with the Mac. I had problems with NTFS on my mac. VDJ would freeze and not search for things.
