Topic: Stanton SCS.4DJ, your input?

Saw this unit today and made me think, not what i would buy but the concept is interesting.
Never been a fan of Stanton aside from the Turntables and Uberstand, but i thought the idea of having the software built into the controllers has got to turn some heads. Yes we already have the screens displaying cues, bpms, etc etc...
But this controller is actually showing soundwaves... its a step up i think, now im wondering if this will have any go... think about it, we dont have to use laptops, ipads, iphones, etc... just plug in your hard drives...

How long before we see Numark, Denon or anyone else make something along these lines with Itch, VDJ or Traktor built in? Interesting concept......
going back to this thread http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/154819/General_Discussion/Equipment_Standard____.html makes you wonder what the standard really is, or is going to be before soon....

This is not the first of its kind...

Numark had the D2 Director, then the DDS system and the HDMIX.

Cortex have made some crappy ones too!

I do think it's a good idea to have an onboard OS, so that there's no need for an external computer - but the trouble is that they always build these damn things to the lowest possible spec that they can get away with.

So they're always way too slow and prone to getting their knickers in a twist.

In this instance Stanton decided it would be a good idea to bring this out with no PC based librarian/analysis software, letting the unit itself scan every track before use. Bad move! I worked out that (with my collection) it would take the unit three weeks to scan all the files on my drive! They even have the statement "plug in and perform right away" on the product page...

How on earth they can think that's acceptable I have no idea. Since I pointed this out to them, they have stated that they'll release some computer software to do the file analysis and create a database. That was some time ago now, and there's still no sign of it.
