how do you save the music on your external hard drive as a reusable playlist
and keep it for future use
when i close virtual dj and open it again i cannot access the music from the playlist

You can use a saved playlist as often you like ;-)
When you add tracks from external harddrive to your playlist you can save this list, while using the related button at Playlist management menu.
After that you will find this playlist insde the left browser area at Playlist.
Maybe you have close and open the folder with + ;-) to refresh teh view.
But then you will see there your playlist.
Now you load this track one by one to a deck or let it run by automix.
If a error comes up, you have not connected the needed/same harddrive or the file has moved.
It's because, the playlist file hold the exact path information, of each track inside.

i know how to use a playlist what i am saying is everytime i close my session and i go back to the playlist with the external hard drive plugged in i get error messages

What format is your external hard drive? MS-DOS? FAT 32? EX-FAT? MAC OSX JOURNALED? JOURNALED? this is maybe related to formatting hard drives errors.
