Hi All,
I jumped ship and switched to Traktor Duo a few years ago. I had been using Numark Cue and VDJ 5, and I liked the layout, but I had some special needs, and Traktor could handle them. Now, my needs have expanded, and VDJ 7 is looking better, plus the "new" version of Traktor won't install and their support is indecipherable. Please check out my list of needs and let me know if VDJ 7/8 is a good answer:

* Compatibility with a PreSonus StudioLive digital mixer. My DJ software MUST be able to run on channels 17/18 in the mixer's ASIO setup. VDJ 5 couldn't do this, and that was the main reason I switched to Traktor.

* iPad compatibility. I just bought a new iPad and want to be able to remotely-control the DJ software for times like doing the bouquet and garter at weddings. I'd like to be able to cue up all the necessary songs, then walk out into the middle of the crowd to get folks in place and fire up the chosen music from there.

I downloaded and am trying the free version of VDJ 7. It seems to work well, and I realize how much I missed features like 1-deck automixing, filter folders, the easy playlist to the right and the waiting box at the bottom. I'm hoping VDJ is the way to go. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Configuring your mixer should be possible using advanced sound setup. This capability didn't exist in VirtualDJ v5. You can test advanced config in Home FREE to check that it will work for you, but this is limited to 10 minutes use at a time.

VirtualDJ v7 can be remotely controlled from an iPad or iPhone using iRemote - Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/What%20is%20iRemote.html (This is a separate app that needs to be purchased separately from VirtualDJ Pro. It will also work with Home FREE.)

If you do choose to come back to VirtualDJ again, then you should be able to upgrade from your Cue LE 5 to the latest full VirtualDJ Pro at a discount by going to: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

Just thought of another requirement: Sometimes my DJ setup uses an Apple Mac Mini, while other times it uses my HP laptops running Vista and Windows 7. The Mac and W7 laptop are generally my main reception/party computers, while the Vista laptop is used for ceremonies and second systems when I double-book. How many licenses am I allowed per purchase of VDJ? Will the iPad app work and interchange with all of them?

2 individual installs per licence at the same time, and yes the app will work with both systems, but probably not at the same time.

To be clear about this. The above is true but, it must be used by 1 user and 1 instance per session. The 2nd install is meant as backup and shouldn't be running at the same time as the first.

NO! You many not come back home TRAITOR, how dare you? lmao :)

Okay...so I bought the Broadcast 7 version. Actually, I'm amazed how inexpensive it is; $49 and it installed/works perfectly on my PC laptop and Mac Mini computers. I haven't had a chance to route it via Firewire to my digital mixer, but I'm betting it'll be okay. Next, I'm waiting for my new iPad to arrive, then the REAL fun will begin!

Thanks to all for the advice!
