Hello all, I have read and read the help files and searched topics on this issue and still don't get so please excuse me for creating this thread and please have a little patience if you try to help me with this?
As far as I understand, if you are not using an external mixer then you would need a separate soundcard for headphone cueing on your laptop, is this correct? If yes then I would like to inquire about 2 options:
1] Headphone cueing using the Numark DJ 2 GO controller?
2] Headphone cueing using the DJ 2 GO controller with an external mixer?
Can anyone tell me please how to go about doing each option please?

You're almost there...
Yes you'd need a second sound card (or simply one that has enough channels), but the DJ2GO doesn' have a sound card, it's just a controller.
It's better to get a sound card that has two stereo channels, rather than using two cards (can cause issues).
If you get an external mixer that has USB audio, then the cue facility will be on the mixer. Just be aware that some USB mixers only have ONE stereo USB audio channel, not two.

If you can kindly see this here:

they mention simply using a splitter cable for the headphones but he doesn't say how it's done, any idea?

Please see page 5 of the audio configuration up guide: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/PDFManuals.html
NOTE: This will only give you MONO sound.
Purchasing and using a proper dedicated mutli-channel DJ sound card such as Numark DJIO is strongly recommended, especially for live performance. This will give you stereo sound for both your master output and headphones.
For home use, a simple additional USB sound card can be used to provide an additional stereo output for your headphones. Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Pre-listening%20with%20headphones.html

let me ask another question then, do you absolutely need an external soundcard even when using an external mixer?

If you wish to be able to be able to output the left/right decks separately to two channels on the external hardware DJ mixer (So you can headphone pre-listen from the mixer, adjust EQ, volume, etc. independently), then yes you will ideally need an external multi-channel DJ sound card.
The mono split option can do the same job, but will only give you MONO sound, so is not ideal for live performance (Unless the PA system is also mono.)
For live performance a good quality multi-channel sound card designed for DJ use is strongly recommended.

If you use a USB mixer, then the 'sound card' is built in to the mixer, and (as long as it has two stereo channels) VDJ can then send the sound from each deck to a channel on the mixer, and you would use the real mixer to DJ - not the onscreen one.
Some USB mixers though, only have ONE stereo USB input, which limits the usefulness.
If you buy an external pro (ASIO) sound card then you will not be tied down to using a particular mixer, and could connect to any normal RCA mixer line inputs from the sound card.
