Hi folks, jimmy here, from ireland. I am 42, and very new to the dj scene.

I have a mate who djs at d local club. He was away recently, and as id shown an interest in djing (i did a after wedding party for my cousin using a playlist on wmp!) he let me have his numark mixtrack pro to toy around with. He works from a laptop and has traktor on it. I found the few days great fun, messing about with it and would really like to get more involved. My mate can offer me work if i get set up, which ultimatly is why im here. Ive looked on youtube and saw vdj. It looks awesome.

Can you guys offer any advice as to what version of vdj i could start off with. I am not into mixing (yet) dont have the knowhow, but will want to be able to play parties like 21st, 40ths etc

Thanks in advance

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy & welcome!

First thing I would start off with is a new or newer laptop with strong specs. Better to have more than you think you need, cause down the road you will need more.
Next is to purchase Virtual DJ Pro 7, soon to be version 8 as we all wait anxiously.
If you work on a Mixtrack Pro or midi controller with built-in sound card VDJ will be a blast for you right out of the box.
Being a mobile DJ and doing private parties will require allot of gear, so when you have questions about speakers, cables, stands, lights, etc, these forums will be a great asset.

Good luck!

Cheers m8. In case this doesnt work out, i dont want to spend too much. The pro version costs a bit, would one of the cheaper versions do to start off with?

Also buying a controller entitles you to a discount on VDJ pro .... welcome to the VDJ family. Trust that we are helpful, but remember we are DJs so our sense of humor may be a bit warped at times

Yip, buy a controller bundled with VDJ LE, then if you choose to go Pro you get an upgrade discount depending on how much the controller was bought for.

Supported controllers here: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html

And ..... welcome!

Keith

Thanks all for the reples......and the welcomes

With regard to the mixtrack pro...I believe it only comes with Tractor le in Europe?

With regard to price, I am trying to keep it as low as possible, as I'm not even sure this will take off.

Great site btw!!!!!
