I recently purchased the MC3000 to use with VDJ. I have been a Pro Full owner for a few months. For the most part, I love it. It's solidly built and the audio drivers seem pretty solid. However, I'm having some pretty major mapping issues. What it boils down to is that ALL of the default mappings aren't actually responding the way they should. My biggest problem right now is with the Video Transition button: 99% of the time it does nothing. The left video preview will flash but the transition is not triggered. I've mapped that function to the spacebar and it works fine, but I bought THIS controller so that I would not have to touch the laptop. I had a different controller and had mapped an unused button to trigger video_transition and it worked fine. I understand the default mapping for the MC3000 and it looks like it makes sense, but I'm having no luck getting it to operate as advertised.
The second problem is that when I adjust volume for samples, the sampler slot display goes crazy, scrolling the names of each of the different samples loaded and the volume knob bounces around. The buttons and knobs on the controller are actually functioning correctly it turns out, but the display isn't, which can be pretty disconcerting in the middle of a set.
I tried posting something on the Denon DJ forum and the response I received from Denon made little sense and did nothing to solve my problem. As directed I tried loading the Denon skin, but it's unusable for my personal style and did nothing to solve my problem. Also, I can't understand (and never received an answer from the Denon rep) why a different skin would have any effect on how buttons are mapped. Maybe there's something I'm missing with the way that VDJ works, but as I understand it the mappings correlate to VDJ functions, not point to places on the skin.
Unfortunately the only times their help line is manned is when I'm at work, so that does me no good.
I'm becoming rather disappointed with the fact that this isn't functioning as advertised and that I'm not getting useful responses from Denon. I don't want to return it, but I may have to if no one here has any insight.
Thanks for reading!

what is it mapped as for both the video transition and the sampler volume... also what controls are they mapped to? are they dual side controls or just individual ones?
an example of dual side is a play button as they are duplicated on the opposite side of the controller. An individual control would be a browse knob as there is only one on the whole device.
The denon guy is wrong, skins don't unlock features they just give different feedback, eg one may offer video preview screens for video and another may not, but you can still use video when either of the skins are in use.

Thanks for confirming the skin thing. Kind of bugs me to hear incorrect information from a rep for the company that makes the equipment. I've only been using VDJ for about 6 weeks (coming from 6+ years with Traktor), so I thought I could be wrong.
The video transition button is a dual side setup. There are two sets of 4 buttons and knobs on either side that correspond to 4 effects parameters and with a locking "shift" type button they are they mapped to 4 sample slots. The buttons and knobs actually DO the correct thing (which I didn't realize until last night) they just cause the sampler portion (in the default skin) to display incorrect info. The video transition button is on the left (when effects are being controlled by the MC3000), button number 4. On the right side the same button controls the video effect.
I don't have my machine in front of me, but the mapping for the video transition is one that checks to see if the deck you're on is a or c (the left side of the controller) and if it is, triggers video_transition when pressed. If not (meaning you're pressing the corresponding button - EFX4 - on the right side fo the controller) it triggers video_fx.
I rarely use video_fx, but when I tried it, it did work consistently. However, the video_transition portion doesn't. I was previously using a Hercules eMP3 whatever it's called, and set an unused button to trigger video_transition without a problem. If I delete all mapping for EFX4_BUTTON and replace it with simply video_transition, it will work, but EFX4_BUTTON on either side will "push" the transition one way or the other, meaning that the left EFX4_BUTTON will only serve to change the transition (or technically push the video crossfader) from deck A to deck B. Once deck B is playing, EFX4_BUTTON on the left side does nothing. You have to push the same button on the right side to get it to transition from B to A.
This is all so convoluted! I was hoping that someone else had come across this and would be able to offer a simple fix. I'm HOPING that I can correct some of this via mapping, but it's very disheartening that Denon themselves aren't more willing to help out.
Thanks for your input!

I can't really offer any mapping assistance until I see what is in there, otherwise it is just guessing about the problem.

If I remember correctly the mapping is:
action_deck1 ? video_transition : action_deck3 ? video_transition : video_fx
Now this sounds like it makes perfect sense. Is this button on deck 1? If it is, engage the video transition. If the button is not on deck 1, check to see if its on deck 3. If it's on deck three, engage the video transition. If it's not on deck 1 or deck 3 (then it must be deck 2 or 4, which is the right side of the controller), then engage the video effect. I get it. However, it rarely works. I've mapped the spacebar to also engage the video transition, but when pushing the button on the controller fails, something weird happens and the mapped keyboard command will also fail. In fact, ANY changes I make to the default mapping results in most other functions suddenly failing...even those whose mapping I haven't changed.
I've tried editing the mapping for the button and I get very weird results, almost never what I enter. This leads me to believe that there's another issue. I would immediately assume a possible firmware problem, but since (it looks like) Denon pulled a firmware release from a few weeks ago, I can't test this. I also cannot get a response from Denon. I find it a little hard to believe that out of (what I assume would be) thousands of these units sold, I can't get a sensible response from Denon. In fact it's been 48 hours since I've had a response from them to my post on their forums.
I appreciate any insight than anyone might be able to provide.
Thanks!

Is this the standard mapping for the unit or is this a change that will fix the problem I'm having with the Video Transition button? I'll send you my email address...thanks.

BTW:
Map your button to:
<map value="EFX4" action="action_deck 1 ? deck 1 video_transition : action_deck 2 ? deck 2 video_transition : action_deck 3 ? deck 3 video_transition : action_deck 4 ? deck 4 video_transition" />
If this doesn't work as it should change it to:
<map value="EFX4" action="action_deck 1 ? deck left video_transition : action_deck 2 ? deck right video_transition : action_deck 3 ? deck left video_transition : action_deck 4 ? deck right video_transition" />
Map your button to:
<map value="EFX4" action="action_deck 1 ? deck 1 video_transition : action_deck 2 ? deck 2 video_transition : action_deck 3 ? deck 3 video_transition : action_deck 4 ? deck 4 video_transition" />
If this doesn't work as it should change it to:
<map value="EFX4" action="action_deck 1 ? deck left video_transition : action_deck 2 ? deck right video_transition : action_deck 3 ? deck left video_transition : action_deck 4 ? deck right video_transition" />

the MC 3000 video transition issue has been already fixed.
Updated mapper http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/14796/Denon_MC3000.html (for Pro Full users)
Fix is also included in the latest available version (currently 7.2)
