What do you think of the 2900 ?

A SC3900 with static platter ??? :P

BTW: If this image is true then it is SC2900. Otherwise it's just a mock up...

PS: I hope it is a mock up. Otherwise, the way the leds are surrounding the platter makes the deck look ugly IMHO (at least in this blurry picture) :(

Then as I said it's a SC3900 with a static (Pioneer like) platter. The only thing that bugs me until I see a hi-res photo is the LED ring of the platter.

it's a terrible design if it is real, the jog wheels sit much higher than the leds so it would be obscured from view for a moment each revolution, It defeats the purpose of having a led ring. For this reason I think it's a mockup or at the very least an early prototype.

The 2900 is a smaller deck and it has leds going around the paltter like a Numark NDX 800/900 deck. The Platter is Non Motorized.

@Caliente:

Are you sure ? Have you seen it ?
From the image above it doesn't look like a small / smaller deck for several reasons. It appears to be the same chassis/layout with SC3900. Only the platter is different.

PS: I don't know if it's smaller by some millimeters or something but I'm almost confident that it has the same chassis with SC3900 thus same dimensions. It makes more sense as it reduces the production cost A LOT!!!

PS2:
The more I look at the picture, the more I think that it is the same unit with SC3900. Everything (and I mean everything) is the same. They just pull out the motorized platter and they through a "static" touch-sensitive platter in place. And since they had a lot of free space left they decided to put this (ugly IMHO) LED ring to surround the platter. If you take a "close" look you will even see the "cuts" on the plastic cover that were meant for the motorized deck (on the lower side and on the screen side)

My guess is that it would be smaller in height due to the lack of motor.

I have just studied the "2900" picture in comparison to a pic of the 3900, and the most suspicious thing for me is that the "2900" still has start time and stop time controls....

Why would a deck with a static platter need those?

Also the track display info on the "2900" is exactly the same as the 3900 pic. Same track, same timings....

@groovin:
As I said it will make more sense if it has the exact same dimensions with SC3900. Same chassis, same plastic parts, same buttons, same assembly, e.t.c. That would bring production cost more than 50% down...
Anyway, time will tell.
I think I'm done for now!

PS: I love DENON products. But if this is true and is the way we see it on this picture, it will be the first product from DENON that I wouldn't favor!

Over and out!

Confirmed Denon Sc2900 is equal to 99.99% Denon Sc3900, the only difference is that the plate does not rotate and have those leds around.

If I ever decided to switch from a controller to individual decks, I would go the 3900 route. Then I would consider retiring my 1210's for good...

Cheers,

Roy

That is horrible!! I don't understand the reasoning behind going with the static platter. I mean that is the whole beauty and uniqueness of the 3700 and 3900 was the spinning platter. No thanks, I'll just stick to my 3700's for now and possibly upgrade to the 3900 later.

The Deck Looks Nice for a Non Motorized Platter.

I completely fail to understand why Denon went for such a basic screen on these new products.

OK I know they're CD players, but they're also supposedly multi media players too.

What use is a screen like that for browsing?

Yeah, I know they have a LAN connection and you're supposed to connect it up to a computer, a wireless router, an iPad etc - but that's not exactly convenient when you're going on the road.

The way I see it is that of you're going to spend this much money on standalone players, why should you need to/would you want to be connecting them up to other things to get the best out of them? It should all be on board!

Pioneer at least got the screen right on the CDJ-2000. That was the way to go, not back 10 years to CD player screens!

Oh well.... :-)

Pioneers may have a nicer screen but, Alot of Dont dont use the deck as a stand alone. They use there laptop to view all there songs because its a bigger screen and being able to hot cue all your tracks with their favorite software. The new denon 2900 will be a good seller.
