Hi guys,
I am completely new to Virtual DJ but it's something that sounds very exciting and I'd like to learn more about it and start using it myself. I literally have no idea how it works however; can anyone point me in the direction of a beginner's guide, or just explain a few principles to me?
I'm very tech savvy, and I'm really into electronic music, especially artists like Trentemoller, Apparat/Moderat, Digitalism and Ellen Allien. I also used to play the guitar but that was a few years ago.
My main questions are:
1) Is VirtualDJ just for mixing tracks or can you also create music?
2) Do you need special mp3s that split out the tracks their different composite layers (I have no idea what the real term for this is)?
3) Do I need any other equipment or can I start out with just the software?
If anyone can answer these questions or point me in the direction of some answers that would be really appreciated.
Thanks.
Ray

1:You cant make music first of all.
2: i dont know about that. XD
3: Yes you can just start, with whatever version of Virtual Dj you've got. But by all means you can buy more equipment if you feel you need to.

There are no "special MP3s" that contain the multi-track master recordings!
There are however, things commonly known as stems - which can be downloaded from sites that host remix competitions for example.
These are literally the separate recorded parts from a song, from which you can create your own remix.
This isn't a job for Virtual DJ though. Instead try using Sony Acid or Ableton Live. You can use those for creating music.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the quick responses. So basically I can buy this software and, using my existing mp3s, I have everything I need to start to learn about mixing? That sounds amazing. Does it also work with other formats of music like aac?

AAC is supported as long as they are recent tracks and not old Apple DRM ones.
