I have two Denon 5500's.
When using VDJ's standard 2 or 4 player skin, one of the VDJ players/platter will spin fast with audio to match. When I push pause or stop on that player, it will stop then pulse (jog) forward about a half second then stop again, then keep repeating the pulse/stop action. I also hear audio when it jogs forward. The other VDJ player and controller stays stable with no problems.
I have followed the VDJ Denon setup procedures:
http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/115215/Hardware_Technical_Support/DENON_Hardware_Products_%28Setup__Solutions__Fixes__Issues__etc_%29.html
And also checked on the Denon DJ forum site. It seems the problem is with the VDJ Denon config.
When one of the platters on the VDJ UI is spinning fast, the controller for that player spins at the normal speed. The other VDJ player and controller is stable and works normally.
Either controller will work fine if connected alone.
Only when two controllers are connected is when I have problems.
I have tried switching USB ports with the two controllers with no luck. Sometimes the fast spin will occur on deck 1, other times on deck 2.
I am using Win 7, and the latest Asio driver. I have tried both the 64 and 32 bit Asio with no luck.
I'm pretty sure that there is something wrong with my configuration since each controller has two players and works fine alone.
I plan to only use two decks (1 and 2).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Clay

This has been an issue for a long time.
Atomix claimed to have fixed it on several occasions, but it's like a bad penny (it keeps coming back).
You can find lots of old messages here from users, saying that VDJ used to work with the HS5500s fine for a while back in version 6.*.*
Then after a couple of version updates it became broken again, and has been since.

Ok, after many hours of configuration testing and changes I finally found the combination to get my two Denon 5500’s working with VDJ 7.03!
This setup is only tested for two decks (I did not try it with four decks).
Here’s the deal;
Denon 5500 controller setup;
Go into ‘Presets’:
Units - set one controller to 1, set the other controller to 2.
Midi – Set both controllers to 1&2.
Asio: Set both decks to ‘enabled’.
VDJ:
1 – Go to sound setup / advanced config box;
Set deck 1 to speakers (your audio card) – output 1&2
Set deck 2 to speakers (your audio card) – output 1&2
2 - Change to the four deck skin, /mappers, /controller drop down box on right /deck assignments:
You should see 2 denon 5500’s, set the first listed 5500 to 2&3, set the second listed 5500 to 1&2.
I removed all the other decks listed in deck assignments except the top 2 (use the “x” to remove the bottom decks).
3 – Change back to the 2 deck skin.
4 - Go to ‘sound setup’ and change outputs to 'single output'.
5 – Go to ‘sound card’ and change to either ‘simple’ (for laptop audio output), or Asio (for 5500 output through external mixer).
(You may also need to go to the ‘sound card’ dropdown box on the right to select proper output).
6 – Inputs – I use ‘none’ (you may need to change this setting for your setup).
5500’s:
Set both controllers to layer 1 (do not set any controller to layer 2):
Deck 1 will display deck 1’s track in the left window, and deck 2’s track in the right window.
Deck 2 will display deck 2’s track in the left window, and deck 1’s track in the right window.
Using the above configuration, my two controllers with VDJ 7.03 have been working great.
Hopefully this will bring you 5500 owners some luck.
I’m also hoping that Version 8 will not be this difficult to configure .
