Hi
I have spent months streamlining my karaoke files, I have gone from just over 111,000 files to 43,098 files.
I have two IMPORTANT questions to ask (Important to me at least).
1. How do I rename many files at once? Is there a way to do it?
I ask for this reason. I still have many duplicates but they are named differently. I want to delete all the numbers and letters before the artist and title.
For example, I have files named like....
RB03-01 - Blow, Kurtis - Breaks, The (Part 1)
CB28-17 - Blow, Kurtis - Breaks, The (Part 1)
PHMU03-09 - Blow, Kurtis - Breaks, The (Part 1)
CHT390 -02-Kurtis Blow - The Breaks (Part 1)
It will be next to impossible to find all the duplicates with files named like that
What I would like to have is...
Kurtis Blow - The Brakes
If I can get all the nonsense out, I will be able to find all the duplicates EASILY and be able to delete them.
What I would ultimately like to wind up with is...
Kurtis Blow - The Brakes (Karaoke)
I want all my karaoke to say (Karaoke) in the title because I have mp3+g and mp4 files for karaoke so the tag in the title is a surefire way to know karaoke from music video.
2. How can I print up new karaoke books to reflect my new streamlined karaoke files?
I will soon need to print up new karaoke books. I would like to print them after I have tackled question 1 but nevertheless, I will need to print up new books. Weather I print them from off the HD or VDJ, I will need to print them.
How can I do this?
I need some help and/or guidance on this.

Karaoke Song List Creator. ;)
It works with its own database, so you can rename your songs in pre-defined formats by selecting the proper database-entry and let it rename your files.
Once you're done, you can print your books with the same program.

Your best bet for printing is Latshaw Song List Manager, since you won't be using disc numbers, but I think you will need them to distinguish the different versions of the same song Title that people will be requesting...http://www.latshawsystems.com/ProductDetails_SongListGenerator.aspx
The Best way to tackle that problem is not to delete all the dup's,.. but to print only the ones you need "Once" in your books, ....Leave the others in another folder in your hard drive.., Copy or move those files you will be working with to a New Folder that will be included in your printed books and work from there..
In VDJ Include (KV) at the end of the title, so you'll have (Artist - Title (KV).zip), but again I Don't recommand you ailiminating the Disc Numbers they are important.. Use this software to rename your files. http://www.rlvision.com/
Rearrage your new file stracture to (Artist - Title - DiscID.zip), this way you will import them cleaner looking in VDJ and the last field you should be able to use one of the user fields to hold the Disc. Number, you could use this program to do this. http://www.latshawsystems.com/ProductDetails_KJFileManager.aspx
...Not free, but good if you can't waist time....
Good Luck,
Joey....

some advice...you want to keep some indication of the original name. for example Sunfire and Sound Choice are among the best of the karaoke companies and the people that sing reg. know this and will request Kurtis Blow -The Breaks _ The Sound Choice version because there is a difference.
But i do understand your frustration because i myself have about 200,000 files and in reality its about 50,000 actual titles because of dublication

I use Karaoke in the genre field.

If your an average computer user, pay a little money for Song List Generator like JoeyKJ mentioned. It takes a lot of the hassle out of it, and lets you do some customization with your book layout.
If you have some time, and want to experiment. I use .m3u to start my list for a book. I first have a Karaoke filter. I sort them by artist or title depending on the book I'm making. I then put them all into the playlist and save the resulting .m3u. I take that file and import it into a spreadsheet, using the filename structure to break up the file names into the correct columns, then delete the columns I don't want. Like the extension, disk-track, filepath.
I can then make it look all pretty!

I downloaded song list generator. Out of 43,000 songs, it was able to pull up 396 songs.
I'm not understanding why it only was able to pull up that amount of song.

If it's the trial version, that would be why, if it's a paid full version then it shouldn't be the case...
Not sure of the actual limit though I believe it's a thousand files for the file manager, possibly the compression of the zip's could also effect the import..
I would send them a email on that...

I sent them an email, and I'm waiting for response. I don't have any zip files. They are all MP4.
Inviato Tue 21 Aug 12 @ 10:23 am
Are they converted to MP4 or created as MP4 files..?
Inviato Tue 21 Aug 12 @ 1:24 pm
Converted to mp4
Inviato Tue 21 Aug 12 @ 2:54 pm
I think I know why it did not grab all the songs.
It seems to have pulled all songs that have artist, title.
Most tracks converted as just a song name, not as artist, title.
I will have to rename all my songs. My question is still.........HOW?

ok, you will also need to explain that to them and what tool you used to convert, believe I remenber on one of your previous post you were talking about KMA files, are these the ones you converted.?
...and if they are, did you use their songverter program to make them useable..? or something else.

No kma files. I gave up on that over a year ago. They were all mp3+g and converted to mp4

Post a couple of samples of what your working with to get a better picture of what you need to do to comform, but even if your file title is not complete that shouldn't make a difference, it should still import just not all the information would be displayed in the columns...Post what you have..

Do you still have mp3+g's available, if you do try those and see what happens...might be the conversion has a glitch in the file header even if it plays..

It's all in the way the tracks are named. I can either
1. Rename everything so each track has artist, title (I don't know how to do that)
2. Edit all the id3 tags. (Not sure how to do that either)
As long as each track is in the correct form (Artist, Title) I will be able to use song list generator to make my books.

Yeah, what is the naming structure now of your tracks, does it contain both title and artist and does it have a DiscID number in the tag's or file name..?
An example would be nice...

Mm6185-02 - Gill, Vince - When Love Finds You.mp4
It does not show up as artist, title. It's all title.

Bulkfilerenamer that I posted above will rename your files.
MP3Tag will bulk fix tags, even pull them from the filename.

I tried it and it's not working for me.
Looks like I will have to re do ALL of them one at a time. All 47000 of them... One at a time.
I should be done sometime next summer.
