I was wondering if the 859 or 900 were plug n play with VDJ? if not now maybe after 7.1 is released.

No, they are not currently natively supported.
Because they are standard audio DJ mixers with added MIDI capabilities, it's not very likely that they will be, because when using a real hardware mixer, nothing really needs to be mapped, except for the crossfader if you are video mixing and/or perhaps some spare knobs/sliders that you don't use to control effects/samples (This will vary depending on user preferences.) These simple mappings (If required) can easily be done via Simple MIDI wrapper.
Any external mixer is already 'compatible' with VirtualDJ providing that you have a suitable multichannel DJ sound card or the mixer has one built-in. Normal mixer functions are already available in the hardware, so these don't need to be and should not be mapped. Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/How%20do%20I%20map%20my%20MIDI%20controller.html
Some user made and contributed mappers can be downloaded from http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/controllers.html?category=best&order=default&search=djm - You could use these as a starting point and modify to suit your own preferences.

I use the 900 for videos with VDJ and the only thing "right out the box" that works is the crossfader. That's it.

You'll just open it from within VDJ
Otherwise you can use a standard text editor like notepad

No one is able to tell right now besides the developers. However I expect that it will be working fine with 7.1 and most likely with 8 (backwards compatibility)
If it doesn't then I'm sure that the guy who made it will update it :)
