When I rip my CD's I name my files as Artist - Title - Album, So if the Virtual database is every currupted, it's easy to rebuild right from the file names.

What kind of files are they?
If they support id3 information, you can write the info I to the tags.
Deepening on how your files are named and organized, mp3tag may help you.

Or you can rerip with a program that automatically tags.
