Hi All,

Just two quick questions,

I come from 2 decks/mixer background, I now have the rmx, im not shy about using the sync button however i would like to use slider more often, I dont because - deck A may be playing at 139.5 bpm, I load deck B, if i try to match bpm exactly with slider it might "jump" a few points say between 139.3 through to 139.6 if i hit sync it goes in perfect. it's just not smooth enough no matter how gentle i am, does anyone else have this ?

Also,
is there a way i can assign the 4/8/16 beat loops direct to my effect buttons ? i have the "loop in" and "loop out" mapped to my effect buttons, but would prefer to just hit a button for 4,8 or 16 like i can on my laptop keyboard.

Hope someone can help with this.

I cant help out with the first part, but maybe map your sampler buttons as your loops?

Regarding the first part, try setting the pitch range to the lowest possible value e.g. 6% or 8%

I'm a PnC-thru-a-mixer type, found the exact same thing with the onscreen sliders - sometimes, playing back to back with a vinyl DJ friend, it just wasn't sensitive enough.

Although I don't use a controller, I ended up mapping Shift+Up and Shift+Down to adjust the pitch by an almost insignificant +/-0.05%, and this remedied the problem you appear to have. Being able to adjust the track by 0.01 either way has made all the difference.

Presumably, there'll be a way to adjust the sensitivity of the sliders to less than 6%, however, this would offer less leeway overall.

Try here?

I find that the .4 difference make almost no difference when you actually listen to the mix in your headphones. When I used to mix with Vinal there was no BPM on the mixer. When I moved to CDJ's there was no BPM on the mixer or CD players. it was all by ear. That is the best way to mix is by ear.

The Hercules RMX pitch slider is only 7-bit MIDI, so it's only able to make course adjustments (For best results, use a small pitch range, e.g: 6%) You should be able use quick pitch bends to compensate for any drifting.

If you need more accurate pitch adjustments at a wider range, then you will need to upgrade to a newer controller that uses 14-bit MIDI such as the new Hercules RMX2 or 4-Mx.

OK Thanks guys some intresting stuff there, i'll try reducing to 6% and let you know, and i was looking at the rmx2 or the 4mix,

any other offers about the 4/8/16 beat buttons ? as i've said i can get the loop in/out over to my sample buttons but not sure how to do it with the the auto 4/8/16 etc. Thanks.

Thanks for all the help above

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the controllers with touch sensitive jogs like 4-mx or rmx 2 can be used to do the following;
whilst playing a track can you press down on jog to go into scratch mode pull back the track (fast) and continue to hold it down - paused on a cue point, then simply release the jog wheel and the track plays from that point ? so very similar to vinyl or what the cue button does.

Yes, with touch sensitive jogwheels, the song will pause when you touch them (Allowing scratching), so you can rewind or fast-forward the song using the jogwheel then release it and it will start playing from that point.

now that sounds good !

also are there any controllers where the jogs actually spin/rotate in time with the track like a vinyl deck ?
thanks

Yes, there are a few, e.g: Numark NS7, Numark v7, Denon DN-SC3900 and older DN-3700, Stanton SCS.1d

Or you can use real turntables (E.g: Technics 1210) with timecode vinyl - See: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/What%20is%20timecode.html

NOTE: To use any of these options, you will need to upgrade to the full VirtualDJ Professional at a discount: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html - Your LE version will only work with Hercules RMX, but it entitles you to a considerable discount off the cost of upgrading.

Amen! I find too many people get caught up in 0.01 pitch resolution.
