Topic: OSX 10.6.8 VirtualDJ 7.3 Video Out causes KERNEL PANIC

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hello,

I recently did a fresh install of OS X 10.6.8 and installed flip4mac / perian, and virtualdj 7.3.

Whenever playing video (vob/mpg/mp4/avi) it begins to horribly lag. If I pause the video, I can watch it catch up by a couple of seconds.

I'm running VGA out using an apple supplied video adapter to my SONY TV.

I have a 17" Macbook Pro Unibody 7.1 (i5 core, mid 2010 model. NVIDIA 330 external / 2nd GPU)

I let spotlight successfully index, and I am able to reproduce this error even after re-booting and clearing NVRAM/PRAM.

Immediately after I check the box to enable video to the external device, the kernel_task goes to about 100-200% of the processor, and virtualdj video lags horribly bad (including the skin being slow).

So I have a horrible kernel panic. I used to own a 15" MBP mid 2010 v6.1 (I think its 6.1) and it would run video with no problems...

I have been to the apple genius bar previously and was unable to reproduce the problem, and when they returned the computer it functioned flawlessly for a month or two.. but now we are back to square one, where I am able to easily reproduce the problem.

I will continue to troubleshoot and post information from the console if I find anything.

Thank you for your time.

Please help.

Guess i have the same MBP then you and didn't notice this issue.

Have you enabled to use the higher class videocard only?
Do you use 1080p videos?

I use all 480 vob / mpeg 2.

I always enable the high performance video card in the energy saving part of system preferences.

The issue has been fixed. I ran Apple Hardware Test and it turned out to be a bad GPU temperature sensor triggering my kernel panics, plus the MBP 17" from Mid 2010 has a NVIDIA 330M video card that can be faulty in some MBP 17".

Anyways, that was a nightmare of an issue to troubleshoot, so if your kernel_task is soaring out of control causing your video to lag, and you've done a fresh install, CALL APPLE and run AHT (Apple Hardware Test) because something is probably wrong with your hardware.

Problem solved, the macbook runs great now with no problems.
