What are the prerequisites for starting a legal karaoke dj job? In your country...
In mine, it's just so confusing. There are no publishers, the law is incomplete, etc. I could buy VDJ, download some karaoke videos, arrange some gigs... but there are people always visiting around the gigs with police and punishes the dj's. I could buy DJ license, but it allows me only to buy music CD's, transfer them to hard disc and play them on gigs. But it's just music, not karaoke. How you manage this in your country and stay out of jail?

The police come in and check the legitimacy of the DJ's music? Threatened with jail if in violation? All the problems in the world and authority is concerned with illegitimate music?
People are killed for oil, sex slave trade, sweat shops, scandals manufactured to secure political positions, kids who don't even have clean drinking water..... and we're worried about rogue DJ's who don't conform to Nazi regulation.

Dude if thats the environment in your country, move to the U.S.! You can do whatever you want here!

To perform music in public, you and/or your venue will need appropriate licenses from the appropriate authorities, depending on the laws of your country. In most cases, there are usually different licenses covering music, karaoke and video separately.

You will also of course need to purchase your Karaoke and music from legal vendors.

So Karaoke in New York State for example; VDJ, is it considered a legal vendor and if so what additional license would be required? Or who would be the right company to contact for that information. I was told that VDJ Karaoke includes the music license for CDG files only....?!

Regarding legality and/or licensing of music/karaoke via ContentUnlimtied, you will need to contact the content providers, which are currently MegaHits/ChartBusters for Karaoke Plan, Grooveshark for Audio Plan and VJPro for Video Plan.

Subscribing to a content plan entitles you to use content from that plan only while your subscription is active. It does not make similar content that that you have obtained from elsewhere and already have on your hard disk legal (E.g: Downloaded Karaoke CDG's, even if these are from ChartBusters.) Karaoke from the Karaoke Plan is in video format not CDG. It's DRM encrypted and can only be used in VirtualDJ with an active Karaoke Plan subscription.

Subscribing to any of our content plans does not give you the right or license to perform this content in public. You will need public performance licenses from the appropriate authorities (The same also applies for playing music in public from other sources such as audio CD's and purchased MP3's.) In some countries, you may also need a specific karaoke license as well as music.

To find out more about licensing in your country, please search Google and/or make enquiries with venues and other DJ's/KJ's in your town/city. If you are playing clubs/bars only, then you may be covered by the venue's license, depending on the licensing laws of your country.
