The Gemini G4V was announced today ahead of the NAMM Show
2013 . The unit is a USB DJ controller/audio interface with a
four-channel mixer.
The Gemini G4V adds 16 multi-function performance pads and
rotary encoders to a basic Dj controller design, and aesthetically
is much in the style of the Vestax VCI-380 , the Vestax VCI-400
and Pioneer’s DDJ-SX .
“The pre-m
apped FX controls for Virtual DJ bring immediate
results upon first use,” says Gemini, although it’s unclear whether
this is so with any supplied version of Virtual DJ LE – quality FX
in Virtual DJ LE are conspicuously absent.
The sound card is 24-bit, the faders and jogwheels are 14-bit,
and if it has a standalone mixer as I suspect, plus decent output
options, it may well be welcomed by the Virtual DJ community
for bringing some of the performance functions of those other
controllers at a reasonable price. However, to me it is looks clear
that this is a controller waiting for Virtual DJ 8 to appear.
Price, full spec and build quality will all be on our agenda when
we visit the Gemini booth to get a video and hands-on low-down
at NAMM this week.

Looks like a nice controller but from the picture you posted it seems like a lot of functions are lumped into those pads which probably means a lot of shift commands. I'm not a fan of having o use shift all the time, never know though I could be way off here. Can't wait to see a review of it. Seems Gemini is stepping is stepping it up again.....

Ooh an SX alternative at a reasonable price. Could be worth a look.

Can't see any Mic inputs or Mic EQ there?

Everything is a knock off ... the DDJ-SX is a knock off (in a bigger form factor with Pioneer's own flavor) from Vestax VCI-400 ... and we can go ON and On and on ... ;-)
There isn't to much that will be 'original' in the near future that hasn't already been done when it comes to design. Most designs will be chops, cuts, and twists from other products and simply laid out or mashed differently.
DJ controllers are now in 'Remix Mode' ... think about it :-)
Cheers!
Btw, here is a link to a better Hi-Res picture - http://www.digitaldjtips.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Gemini-G4V.jpg

That is funny, but you and I know that they are whipping those workers very hard. The difference will be that the Behringer
unit will look EXACTLY like the Pioneer.

NS7 ii Serato only?
Ah well .........
Ah well .........

That NS7 II is almost my ideal piece of kit. If only it could play standalone, without needing a computer.

I guess the question is who is going to release a SX equivalent that is fully VDJ compatible.
Further to that I guess it would need to be released with VDJ8 to support additional sampler & FX
I don't care for Serato or Traktor but it hacks me off that controllers like the SX are locked to one software package by the manufacturer. I thought things were going the other way....... and if it could be used by more people it would sell more?
This year could be interesting indeed!

Jeez, looks like everyone's going mad for the pads!
There's the Numark Mixtrack Pro II with pads, the handheld wireless Numark Orbit with pads....
Come on Denon, what have you got?

That's what I've been asking all along!! I don't care that we can map any controller cause half the time it feels like VDJ was shoe horned in, although the Stanton DJC4 is an exception with the controllers I've used.
Well I shouldn't say that exactly cause for me it's always the effects and the way they work. Every controller that I've used they are always different when it comes to the effect section. Example would be my latest purchase, the ZOMO MC-1000 (great unit by the way). One the top there's 4 knobs and 4 buttons, now without having looked over the PDF I just assumed that the buttons would launch 4 different effects and the knobs would control the parameters (which they do) but the buttons are actually for the buttons with in the effect themselves. This throw me waaay off!! So now I basically have total control over ONE EFFECT whereas with Traktor there mapped to 3 different effects plus a wet/dry. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there needs to be a standard for effects that plugin authors need to follow or follow the path of other software and have a wet/dry with an amount knob for each effect. Some people agree some disagree either way in my experience the effects section never matches up to the way our effects work in VDJ.........
Hopefully this is fixed when 8 drops
