Anyone using either of these controllers: can you inform me how good these are?
Presently i am using the Hercules RMX. I do not have any problems with it.
I am looking for a controller that you has vu meters on order to better monitor the
output.
I am leaning towards the VMS2, but want to get input from the users.
I purchased the American Audio MXR 14 but I am going to return it due to some issues.

I have a VMS4.1 and I really like it. I too was to was debating between the VMS2 and The VMS4.1
I decided to purchase the VMS4.1 for the 4 Track capability. I don't use the 4 Track capability very much
but for the extra money I wanted to have the option.
Here is my review.
I use a Macbook to run my VMS4.1 setup for the Macbook was seamless I didn't have to install any other drivers. I am a VDJ Pro edition user and for me the VMS4.1 was just plug and play.
The unit is well built and very solid ( I also have a Numark mix deck ) and compared to the plastic feel of the mix deck this unit is very well built more of a steel than plastic construction.
the jog wheels are on the smaller side but I like that.
The buttons are all laid out very nicely
There are two mic outputs with separate gain, treble, mid and bass controls
Overall the unit performs well. I have never had an issue with it. The price is great you can get one for less than $450.
I give it a 9/10 rating for controllers at that price point

Thank you for the info.
The MXR is a nice unit but the issues I am having are;
It loads a track on both decks, when it loads a track the headphone
pre listen engages. Also when the pre listen is engaged the vu meters spike.
No corrections from American Audio.

I have the 4.1, its a great controller the only slight downfall is the small jog wheels but that will only be a problem if you scratch and even then its not that bad. I installed an Innofader in mine and have a vid on YouTube showing me scratch with it just search user name Rnow3. It's an all metal unit and the 2 separate Mic inputs are great. I've had it for 1.5 year and had no problems with it I also have a DDJ-SX but the only reason I brought that was it had separate VU meters for all channels and master (the 4.1 you have to choose 1 or the other but not at the same time), bigger jog wheels and the performance pads. But the 4.1 is a great unit for the price.

I own the VMS2 and I am really satisfied with it so far.
The advantage of VMS4 to VMS2 in my opinion is a second Mic-Input, 2 more channels and the effect and sampler units.
It is a bit difficult using effects with the VMS2, because the effect buttons for both decks share their function with the file / track navigation.
Conclusion:
Most of the time I do not need 4 decks or use samples but the second mic-in is great and it is much easier to use effects when you have direct access. My advice: VMS4.1
Disadvantage of both controllers: no filter encoder :(

You can remap one of the knobs to filter, I remapped one to a fliter plugin.

Yes, I know how to map a knob to filter but at the VMS2 there are not many knobs that might be used.
I tried to set the jog to filter while pressed shift but there are irregular errors (starts @+50 when using filter for the 1st time in a track). Might be easier to set a knob on the VMS4. I do not know exactly but if I map an endless encoder with function + shift while pressed it seems to me that f.i. filter does not know the position of the knob exactly. Maybe I am wrong.
My mapping:
SHIFT_JOG I filter

I'm not around my unit right now but what if you try using shift_ booth volume that might work. Not sure what the exact code would be but you can always use key learn and action learn to get it right

I have used the VMS4.1 for 8 months now. LOVE IT! I do mainly weddings, and don't scratch, so the jog wheels are not an issue for me. it is rock solid, haven't had so much as a hiccup so far. I came from a Numark DDS, and it is my first laptop controller so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I couldn't be happier.

@Rnow3
I think, booth can only be mapped with "fake_" cause it has its function in the analog mixer section (as master / gain etc.), but I'm not sure right now. I tried to set filter to gain knobs before but it has been a absolutly stupid idea - when turning the "filter" knob i turned up and down the gain :D
