Currently I have bought VDJ-Broadcaster Ed. via Steam, I have played with it in the past at length but with no proper hardware.
I really want to practice and get better at djing, but I need some advice on the next steps.
I mainly use Trance and Progressive music. Some house/deep house/hardcore etc but not into any sort of dubstep, DNB etc.
Basically I need to know what hardware is good for me, I don't want something that will end up useless, but on the other hand I don't want to spend millions on controllers. What hardware is the most popular and what can people recommend?

The version you have bought does not work with hardware, it is the broadcaster version only. To be able to use hardware you would need to buy a controller bundled with VDJ LE or get the full Pro version.

right okay, so even if i get the upgrade to basic i cant get hardware?
Can i buy hardware bundled with the VDJ LE and then I can use hardware with the broadcast? or do I still need pro?
Also can you recommend any hardware?

How much are you looking at spending on a controller?

Soundest advice is upgrade to full, then you really can have it any which way you fancy, buy just about any controller you fancy, and broadcast to the masses as you fancy.
I started with pro basic through an external mixer, then upgraded to pro, and not looked back. New fandangled controller, and a live radio stream on a Saturday. Win all round.
Besides, you'll probably get a discount upgrading to pro anyway...

Well I dont want top of the range, as it is just playing around at home and streaming live to friends and a couple of gaming communities etc. however I don't want something that cant do anything. I have the money for whatever but I don't NEED top of the range, just need something that can do everything well and nothing too cheap and nasty. Like if some could recommend a few things in different price ranges?

Have located a denon mc 6000 for £425 and is 20 months old, would that be suitable for me?

A used controller like the MC6000, Numark NS6 or NS7 is one way to go however the software license is not transferable. Therefore you would still have to purchase Virtual DJ.
You could buy a new controller thats already bundled with Virtual LE, get registered and when your'e ready, upgrade to Pro.
If you just want to practice and work on mixing and building a library I would check out the new Mixtrack Pro II.
Good luck!

Right but if I am going to have to go pro version at some point anyways. Lets assume I will.
Should I spend £425 on a second hand mc6000 or buy the Mix Trak 2 for £180? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/numark-mixtrack-pro-ii-controller?utm_source=google+shopping&utm_medium=google+shopping

If you can afford to go for the Denon then do it. The Mixtrack series are pretty basic entry level jobs. No gain controls, no VU meters.
The MC6000 has got all the necessary professional bits and you won't feel the urge to upgrade quite so soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't 425 pounds about $600? Thats the price of a NEW MC-6000 according to what I've seen. And if you don't need 4 channels theres the MC-3000 for around $350.

it comes with a denon case. Also the 6000 is 799 dollars!

£425 for a used 6000 with a case is a good deal. Have you asked why its being sold?
One important note. The MC6000 did not ship with VDJ LE in the UK!
I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I am certain you can connect a controller and get 10mins use out of it before it gets disabled and you have to restart VDJ again for another 10min use.
If that's not the case just download the Home Free version, use a different install directory so you can you the two versions side by side and get the 10min trial that way.
Cheers,
Roy

MC-6000 is seriously excellent. If it's second hand just check for a couple of things.
A - Check the play & pause buttons work well, they can have an issue of wearing out with frequent use#
B - Check the top plate paint isn't corroded, it goes a bit shabby with finger acid not being cleaned off.
Apart from those things, it is well worth getting and as Roy says that's a good price.
