Topic: Controller Mapping and Latency Settings for Mixtrack Pro

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Getting started with Controller Mapping and Latency Settings in VirtualDJ7:

I am relatively new and inexperienced with this software although feel that it is most suitable / compatible for the Mixtrack Pro, so am wanting to develop my understanding of the settings and performance.

1. I want to change the crossfader to hamster so I open config\mappers, click green plus to add and twitch my crossfader so that it appears in the Key Learn box. The standard action learn says crossfader so instead I type in crossfader_hamster and click OK and close. I try to move the crossfader but it has no response now on VirtualDJ. I double check in config and the mapping function for crossfader has been changed to hamster. I MUST DELETE THIS AND REVERT TO STANDARD CROSSFADER. Please advise /help.

2. Virtual DJ has both channel gain knobs in the software, either side of master gain but Mixtrack pro does not have corresponding buttons on the controller. I want to be able to control L+R channel gain via my controller. What is the best way to do this, which other knobs on the controller should I use instead, ie, the 2nd Control Knob for each deck seems most logical. Also if the control 2 buttons are mapped to the gain channels of the software, does this sacrifice their initial functionality as secondary effect dials or can they be configured to operate more than one software function?

3. I started to use Virtual DJ because I found that it was the best mapped software suited to my controller, ready to go 90%+ basically, in comparison to Serato and Traktor. I also found (opposite to many comments) that it had the lowest latency for scratching. I like the jog sensitivity feature in Config and the instant Scratch feature for the crossfader instead of smooth or full. But I still want to tweak it because if I give it a hammering for a while the latency can build up.
I read about the registry tool to change the scratch latency to 1024kb but I am unable to download this tool due to my status. Plus when I go into config\performance the soundcard latency settings are auto by default, which is 512kb for my system. So if I change this setting from auto to 1024 (23ms), is this not the same as what the registry tool is for?
I downloaded a useful small app, the DPC latency checker and when I run it the graph moistly hovers around 512 but occasionally spikes to 1024, so am I better setting the soundcard latency to 1024 instead of auto?

4. Finally the ASIO4ALL great debate. It came with my controller and Numark stated to install this generic driver before any DJ software so I have always used it. But I read that setting the audio to WDM or Numark driver is as good or the same. Some conflicting advice. At the moment I am sticking with my ASIO4ALL driver because as I said above my system setup using Mixtrack Pro and VirtualDJ runs at low latency and the scratching sounds better than I could imagine.

I realise I have written a lot but I hope that someone kind has the time to answer some or all of my my questions, or provide me with a link to answers relating to similar previously asked questions in the forum that I have missed.

Peace

Ben

First of all, to be able to use the MixTrack Pro and customise its mappings, you will need to purchase the full VirtualDJ Professional. If you like the software, please support it and its future development by purchasing it: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html (Especially if you are working DJ and are making money as a result of using it at your gigs.)

If you have already purchased, then please register your Pro serial number on your profile page http://www.virtualdj.com/users/edit.html and then download the latest version from the Download Center: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html - If your MixTrack Pro came with VirtualDJ LE included, then you can upgrade to the full Pro at a discount (LE is free limited software and will only allow custom mapping during the time limited trial of the full VirtualDJ Pro.)

1. crossfader_hamster is a toggle and must be assigned to a button (Pressing the button turns it on/off.) Either assign it to a button of your choice on the MixTrack (One that's normal function you don't need to use) or a keyboard shortcut. Leave the crossfader mapped to its default action crossfader

2. You can assign this function to any knob of your own choice (Map it to the action gain_slider), but you will of course loose the knob's original function. VirtualDJ analyses each song and remembers any manual adjustments that you have made, so there should not be much need to directly modify the gain. Don't use it as an artificial volume booster and/or to compensate for speakers that aren't loud enough - If boosted too much, this will result in poor sound quality, either excessively triggering the limiter (Resulting in 'pumping' ) or distortion if the limiter is turned off or you are using an older version of LE that doesn't have the limiter.

3. Changes were made in the latest versions of the software to the default jogwheel sensitivity settings, so there should not be any need to make these adjustments any more, assuming that you are using an up-to-date version. If you wish to further tweak the settings yourself then you will need to purchase and register the software to gain access to the tool. The MixTrack Pro is not a low latency ASIO capable card, so latency is irrelevant. Leave it set to the default 'auto'.

4. Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/ASIO4ALL.html - We do not recommend using this emulator if you don't need to, although for some users it can help. Try it out and compare it to the response that you get using normal native WDM audio and use what works best for you (See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/MixTrack%20Pro.html ) Please bear in mind that MixTrack Pro does not have a real native ASIO capable sound card. For true low latency ASIO capabilities, you would need to use an external sound card that has true native ASIO capabilities and real ASIO drivers, such as Numark DJIO. The lower the latency you can achieve, the better the scratch response will be, but this will also depend on whether your computer is capable of and/or optimised for handling low latency - See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

would the controller mapping work if just buy the broadcaster?
