Are clamps a must for putting your lights on a stand? If so what clamps?

They make it easier and faster to rig your lights.

If you're just starting out, you probably won't notice, but once you get beyond a certain amount of kit, every second counts & anything that makes setup slightly easier is good. The type you'll need depends on what you're hanging them on (thickness/shape).

I've just switched to Rhino Quick Clamps - See here for demo...

Must have saved me a good 40mins combined set up/breakdown time now, as I've also been able to pre-wire my T-bars to I just click, tighten, plugin now...

Up close without a light attached

My "loomed" T-bars

View with the lights connected via the quick clamps

And full show using the above.

Damn... Why did web site rotate my pics!!!

It was just turning its head to say "Kewel" Gadget ;-)

Worth noting that in some countries (Including the UK) H & S people like to see safety chains between each light unit and the Bar as an extra Just in case. Especialy if the Lights are suspended over the Punters.

Is that a KAM DJ stand you are using?? If so, how do you like it??

It's a Giraffe 6ft stand. Had it about 5 years now and is great. Only thing I would want to change potentially is to winches for the uprights, but since having the quick clamps, that has been less of an issue.

4ft just doesn't feel wide enough for me.

On the lower shelf I have my two 19" rack cases - one for sound the other for light control. The front and back of each make excellent storage trays filling up the space on the same level.

Cheers,

Roy
