there is no point buying an emulator..
Its a piece of frosted glass on a frame. around the edges of the top side on the frame you have infra-red leds that shine over the top surface. underneath you have a short throw projector shining the image on underside of the frosted glass and an infra-red camera looking at the glass. When your finger touches the glass you get a black spot in the infra-red light and a computer program will interpret this as your finger touching the screen. There are heaps of DIY videos on youtube of how to do it and free open source software to run it.
VDJ is now multi-touch so you can use any skin you like or make your own. so instead of shelling out $3,000 you could probably build one for $1,000. But still IMHO you are better off with tactile controls.
