Hello. My name is Evan and i am new to this forum but i have used Virtual DJ for quit some time now. I need your help. Im unsure of which MIDI controller i should get. Theyre both the same price at different retailers but i like them both for different reason.
Option 1: SC SYSTEM 3 http://www.stantondj.com/stanton-controllers-systems/system3.html
Option 2: NUMARK iDJ3: http://static.musiciansfriend.com/derivates/18/001/521/106/DV016_Jpg_Large_H71215_with_iphone_V.jpg
I like them both for different reasons. The Stanton has no knobs and is compact as well as it comes apart in 3 pieces. I like it as well because it wouldnt break as easily and could be easily remapped for different functions.
I like the NUMARK because it has a built in sound card for cueing and listening to tracks, but the Stanton comes with a cable to do just that as well. I am going to eventually upgrade to maybe something like the NUMARK Mixtrack Pro II but for now just one of these. I also like the look of the Stanton. So i need your help.
Which one should i get? i appreciate all comments and thank you guys!

Well that isn't completely true about the stanton, I am not sure how the PFL would work using a splitter. I have used splitters back in the day and I just don't see how that would work. Not saying it won't work. But the cable is just that a splitter one for mini 8 and two rca outs. So it converts it to from mini 8 to rca. I through the cable in a small Misc Rca cable box and through it in my mobile dj trailer. (never hurts to be over prepared but something that I probably will never use)
I seem to be having Trouble to get The Stanton SCS 3 to work with Virtual Dj Pro But no problem with the LE version available from this website no problem. Although Maybe It has something to do with, that I already have Pro and other versions of LE on my system by the time I tried to install the CD it came with. I would just use the version that you can download from Viritual DJ, and use the KeyCode provided with the Stanton if you were wanting to use it stand alone, and run through your built in sound card of your computer. Unless you have an external.
If you are wanting something with a built in sound card. I think the numark might be the way to go. But I can not vouch for the sound quality of the built in sound card. ** Keep in mind thought the Numark IDJ3 was never more than 200.00 retail and the Stanton scs was around 500+ USD new when it first dropped and the price has dropped quite a bit since then. So in some ways you will be getting alot more in a weird way for your buck with the stanton.
Though The SCS 3 Does allow for controlling of 4 decks in the LE verison where the Numark le version for the IDJ3 more than likely does not!
So in a weird way you are not comparing apples or oranges you are comparing two totally different things.
Personally I would purchase the SCS 3 well before I would purchase the Numark.
Also, you might want to save your peanuts if you are hell bent on the Numark. and Give a product like Vestax a look. For example the Vestax Typhoon has a built in sound card, (that probably is better than the one on numark idj3) It will have a few more control options. AND It should be compatible with serato intro... and Tracktor etc. where the IDJ would most likely not work with either of those. And should be close to your budget used on Ebay. Just make sure to read your product desecriptions on ebay carefully, as some are Broken and parts machines (i don't buy the whole I can't test it so its for parts only, that just means its broken and can't be fixed)
Both the Numark and the Vestax typhoon are more or less introduction contollers where the vestax will have some more features, and more options with toying around with different software.
The stanton is a very strange controller. And it will take a minute for you to get accustomed to assuming you have used any other controller / turntable in the past. If you have never had a controller in the past. It might be something to start out with..

I wish to change my opinions on the Stanton Sc System 3 controller.
My memory of the unit was slightly flawed...
I remember purchasing the unit, in awe with its possible potential. Stanton did a Horrid Job with this controller, in fact the controller has so much potential, but it can't be completely harnessed unless you have mad computer programming skills, Darouter software was a wreck from the get go with Tracktor, and the programmers must not have had a full concept of DJing or just cut serious corners.)
I remember they relaunched this controller after a flop and pretty much devastating failure with tracktor. As a Virtual DJ controller, (My guess is probably due to them mass producing the item counting on great success) which very well could have been if its true potential was unleashed.
Anyway with the LE software that comes with you can not re map the controller to your specifications. So its creative design and Futuristic concept may have been a good idea. I have to say it actually is its demise.
I also wish to grip about how the eq on on the sms3 deck is actually rather a pain because you have to tap the eq toggle more than once to get it in the right place or else you are messing with different settings. And the eq on the dascratch is actually highs and lows are reversed than how it is in the sms3 deck which is confusing and frankly pisses me off because it is anything but natural.
Also, setting Trigger (cue points) is next to impossible to get perfect on the fly. as you have to bounce back and forth between vynal to control the deck and then trig to set the point. So you would have to set these in advance for each song. And I also can't remember if The LE version by itself will remember these que points, but most likely will. but I am not 100% certain.
So back in the box it shall go, back to its humble place in the closet, for a time and place where I have more patience to map it and use it for my purposes (with another deck)
Also, You will have to make a cheat sheet on how to use the controller at first.
After Playing with the Updated Software on VDjs site which you will definately need over the software that comes with it. Because well you just will depending on where you get it. You will also have to contact Stanton for a VDJ code, if you purchase a unit that was initially bundled with the Tracktor software.
(which The codes from stanton (their website) are a first come first serve basis, and frankly I have no idea how many codes they have in reserve.)
I would like to point out if you purchase a American Audio 4.1 the price of virtual dj is 1/2 so 149 dollars instead of 300.
If you can go to a place like sam ash or Guitar center talk to the people in pro audio of each (assuming they have both the decks you wish to purchase Available in store. They are usually more than accommodating in letting you try out how each works. (at least they always let me pretty much do what ever I wanted) But I doubt they will have the SCS3 and the IDJ3 in stock in house, so Just call them and see before you make the journey if such a store is more than a few miles away from you.
I do agree with the other poster though. Might just want to invest in the Pro Full version so that you can truly unlock Vdj's full potential with pretty much any controller on the market.

The LE version that comes with the controller, only works with that controller. If you buy a LEGAL copy of the Pro version, it will work with all controllers. As to which controller do I recommend, it would be the one that works best for you. Look and play with both controllers, and pick the one that has most of the features that appeal to you.
