When the Pioneer XDJ-R1 is connected to Virtual DJ, can you still use all the hardware beat and sound FX?

Looking at the block diagram on page 37 of the manual, it looks like the effects would be usable when the R1 is being used in R1 mixer mode because the USB audio is routed through the PC deck A/B inputs.
When the R1 is in PC mixer mode then the audio goes straight to master/phones and bypasses all the effects.
Do bear in mind that VDJ has its own effects, which can be added to by using VST plugins.
