Right now I am loving the unit...I have tested it with my netbook playing audio only and it works like it should...minus the display issue which we all know about (Pioneer not giving VDJ permission to use the display). I have shared my thoughts on their forum http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/27781473-XDJ-R1-No-Display-with-VDJ-LE-FAIL- about it. I don't get the logic but that's their business. Hopefully they will give permission down the line and support it with a firmware update.
My thoughts on the unit is it is very solid...well built. I hope the decks can handle the vibrations from parade floats...the MEP 7000 couldn't and it was in a good rack. I am getting a coffin for this unit as well but a very well-padded coffin. I used the unit for over 2 hours last night making a mix...used the same CDs I did back in 2000-2001. Only 2 songs were played off USB drive. The auto-beat-loop was "off". That stinks about not having a loop in and loop out button but VDJ solved that when I mapped those myself. :)
Sunday I plan on giving the unit a go with my 6-7 year old Dell. This will be the rest tell-tell. Overall, right now the unit would be absolutely perfect if they would have given VDJ permission to use the display as they do with their CDJ models.

Hope so too.. VDJ sends track display info to the CDJ models, and hopefully firmware change will allow teh XDJ-R1. But thats up to Pioneer entirely.
Glad you like the unit, tested it only briefly, and was a very nice unit for sure ;)

I had considered this unit but went with the Mixdeck Quad instead.
Glad you lime it though always good to hear about gear in the real world.

Also just bought the XDJ and pro 7.4! Awesome kit :D +1 on the lack of display tho...for a second I wanted my CDJ350/DJM350 setup back instead!! I really hope Pioneer add this function soon.
I have read lots about issues with the XDJ but mine came ready updated with firmware v1.07 and works well. The sampler/hot cue buttons were not mapped right out of the box, but installing the XDJ R1 mapping add-on sorted that out (I think it was that!) anyway, all is good - I would heartily recommend it to anyone!
