So every once in a while i like to hit the clubs to check new trends, whats in whats out, etc...
The thing ive largely noticed is that nobody uses original tracks any more, and it seems all tracks are remixes with intros and outros and its obviously noticeable in their mixes... not to mention it seems everyone gets their music from the same source, because everyone is playing the same thing... and almost identical sets...
am i alone in this or has anyone else noticed it?

not alone. music is in holding pattern again. "next big thing" needs to happen because people are getting bored.

Twerk, Trap, Old School, and Urban Top 40 is big in my area. Urban draws big crowds, but always backfires. See a lot of new DJs poppin up at random places spinning hardcore urban with out mixing it just fading, syncing or dropping. Draws big crowds for a few months then drops off after people get scared of all the altercations. Everything electronic, but mostly trap is going over big after hours. Its all beatport or the various other music services supplying the tracks. Very rare to see someone ripping it up with their own stuff or remixing live.

In my area, it depends on the venue and for the most part the DJ.
Large clubs are typically commercial EDM and Top40 with a splash of HipHop
Small Bar, Sports Bars, Restaurant Bars and like are mostly open format
Ultra Lounges are typically House, Top40, EDM
Where you get a lot of uniqueness are certain promoter run nights where you can here some underground stuff, indie, nu disco, neo soul, deep house, etc. however, those don't draw big crowd and have a life span of 2-4 event in a month.
Yes for the most part, you do hear much of the same stuff. Its what the crowd likes to hear. Its whats hot.
I play mainly clubs and bars, and I do enjoy the mainstream stuff. Its a treat to play an open format sports bar however, its when I can get creative mixing between genres (Rock, HipHop, some old school 80/90's Pop and New Wave, Top40, EDM, House)
Personally, I think any DJ with less than 10yrs experience tend to follow along like a sheep. You're 10+ years veterans are the ones not afraid to outside of the norm and have the library as well as the music knowledge to really mix it up.

When it comes to hiphop, "pop/mainstream" songs I do think many djs uses same remix (-services) for dj friendly intro/outro's.
And if not same remixes, there arent much being done at a "dj friendly" intro, other than adding clean beats for mixing.
So even different sources of "DJ remixes" of a hiphop/mainstream pop tune do sound same ish...
As far as same music goes, its a bit more tricky.
There are a few djs that think they are above serving the crowd what they want to hear and came for, and the dj masturbate his own music preference - those djs dont get to keep their gigs long, unless at a very "open minded" place where they dont really care what the dj plays...
For most venues, just as when the guests goes for a Strawberry Daiquiri at the bar he expect to get a Daiquiri, not a Mojito, a guest going to a club expects to hear tunes he knows and likes. This is usually the case for most all "mainstream" clubs.
There are of course venues of different sorts, where music has a lesser dominant role (for example lounge bars, or bars with no dancefloor etc), where the dj can play almost any song within the genre concept of the venue. Djs there can play "what he wants"..
But for normal "dancefloor places" - the dj has to play whats hot, what people wants and expects, and what they want to dance to...
Although one shouldnt be "too sellout" - and try use elements of known hits (but with a remixed twist), and mix in good other tunes or even a throw back or two into the set, so its not just a hit marathon medley .. that can get too "obvious and expected", and get a little boring ..
