Topic: Understanding the search DB?

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hello I did a NYE show an was trying to look up some songs with the search bar the songs are on an external hard drive an were not showing up.
So my question is do you need to rescan ever time i unhook my hard drive an hook it up at the show again? Thanks.

You need to have the same drive letter. You can change this in your Windows settings.

ok i think i understand what happened now I think it was because i actually transfered some files to my outher hard drive that would not be the same drive letter. Thank you.

If you copy them within VDJ Browser it should work but if you do it in Windows the filepath is wrong after copying it.

I also have a problem with the database. I have a new internal hard disc of 3 GB with letter B with music, I can ad the music to the search database but after closing VDJ Pro and reopen VDJ the songs in the database are gone. The songs in the other internal hard disc of 2 GB with letter M are still there. What's the reason of that problem and how can I solve that database problem?

Set permissions on the drive to rw access

I set vdj to scan my external hard drive its been going for almost 24 h now i forgot if i was scaning to add to DB or for bpm really hopeing it finishis thanks for the reply :-).

If you right click on the root or folder location and select "add to search database", results should improve.

Also, config, >browser>search data base>add automatically.

Still scaning i guess i have more tracks then I realized, now im thinkin did i scan to add to db or for bpm hopeing it to finished up scaning tonight :-).

So i checked my scan when i got home an it had crashed but i dont think all was lost. Alot of the bpm an key are listed also most show up in the DB any ideas on how to find out what tracks got missed or how to back up my search db? Thanks again.

First, add your top-level music folders to VirtualDJ's database to ensure that all files are present (It doesn't matter if the files are already in the DB.)

Then follow the instructions on the following page to scan files that have not already been analysed: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Pre-Analysing%20Your%20Music%20Collection.html

To backup your database and settings, please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/How%20do%20I%20backup%20my%20VirtualDJ%20database%20and%20settings.html

(You should always do this on a regular basis along with your music collection and any other files that are important to you.)

You should really change the "B" drive to letter "D" on your machine and edit the XML file with the change.. But back up your database file first...

This is extremely important as I had to that exactly this for songs to be recognized. :)

The main point here is you don't have to scan the whole lot at once. Break it down logically and do a few 000 at a time. That way you have the option to back up your db in between.

But you can also cancel the scan at any time and restart at a later time.

Simply create a filter folder with the script isscanned=0.

Each time you restart VDJ and go to this filter folder and only the tracks that haven't been scanned will appear.

I do this when I add new music. I can do an "Add to library" from my root folders and when complete, simply go to this filter folder to find the new tracks.

Simples.

Agree with joey on this, right click hit copy and paste it somewhere else for safe keeping. You could even zip the file and leave it in the documents/ vdj folder, then when you add new tracks just delete the old zip and do it again.

Ok so I believe every track is in order as far as DB an BPM Im happy :-). I think the next step for me is to try to load vdj on my laptop as of now im useing my desk top I have a bar in mind that i might be able to get a regular gig at fingers crossed. So my question is if i move the hard drive with the lap top i will need to rescan unless i copy the DB file onto the laptop an have it use that DB file? Is it best to keep the DB file on the hard drive or on the desktop an laptop or all three. Thanks.
