So I have been DJing with controllers so far in my Mobile DJ career. I started with a Hercules Mk-4 and upgraded to my most recent controller, a Denon MC-3000. This past weekend I stopped by Sam Ash and tried my hands on the NS-7 from Numark and I really loved the feel of the "turntables". Assuming that a pair of Technics will feel muuuuch better than the Numark NS-7, I now want me some Techs! My question for those who own them, How expensive are they? and how much of a hassle is it to move them around? I am mobile so i love my controller.

Look on ebay or craig's list, to see prices. If it is something that you love, it will not be a hassle to carry them around. Well, maybe since you grew up on controllers. Only you can answer that. I carry a desktop and a 23 inch monitor to clubs, 4 nights a week. Trying to get the same 24 that I have on my desk, so I don't have to change resolutions.

1210's cost about £400 each, you'll need a carry case at about £60 each and a stylus/cartridge starting at around £35 They weigh about 15-16 Kgs (35 lb for those who struggle with a base 1000 system) but here's the thing, technics no longer make vinyl decks, the 25 year patent on their direct drive system expired last year thus opening the design up to anyone.
You'll still find them brand new for some time yet, second hand you'll be looking at around £300 for a pair.

Techs are not troublesome to transport. 1 Turntable in each case with a mixer in a 3rd case.
OR you can get a coffin that carries both turntables AND the mixer. More convenient but MUCH heavier.
As far as how much, AMAHM gave you good advice. Hit ebay and craigslist. They are your best bet for Technics.
Other VERY GOOD turntables are Stanton ST.150HP or Stanton STR8.150HP or Reloop RP6000 MK6, RP7000 or RP8000 or Numark TTXUSB. (some say these turntables are BETTER than Technics).
Enjoy and Happy Hunting.

You get em fairly inexpensive used. If you search around Craiglist (assuming you live in US). I bought a pair a few years back for $400 a piece. Got it customized with blue LED and painted flat black. Alll in all $1200+ for the pair. Check it out on this thread (6-7th post down): http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/96897/General_Discussion/This_is_my_setup____Whats_Yours_.html?page=69
Turntables are fun, but I am biased, I learned to DJ back when vinyl and turntables were the only way to DJ. Nudging, and slowing the platter to pitch bend may take a bit of practice.
If you are used to a controller, and like those feature, I would seriously look into the Reloop RP8000.
Lugging them around is a pain. Tech 1200's can weigh more than a controller, in a case. I typically only use my Turntables when DJing at a club and I have to bring are my TT, mixer and laptop. On all my mobile gigs, and even some of the smaller bar gigs I do, I use my DDJ-SX.

How about a set of DZ-1200\'s? The old CD equivalent decks. I use them and love it! No needles to break or buy, lighter, smaller and way cool to look at!
Here is my setup:

I actually have a extra pair to sell with road cases. See craigslist chicago.

I also have discovered a cool thing with this setup. I use a Herules RMX in my rack, to hook up the decks. In use, I can have the pitch lock ON and still am able to flange using the pitch controls on the 1200's. Usually you have to turn off the pitch lock to get a proper old school flange to work right because the pitch lock kinda nullifys it. With these you can do both at the same time.
I also have the time code on the SD cards so no disks either!

Look On Craigslist. I wouldn't pay over 700 for the pair Because I know I can find it cheaper. Just be patient.

Yes you can find cheaper, BUT you don't know how they've been abused. People that have good ones get good money because they can. I've had quite a few and you get what you pay for. Parts are hard to come by. Mine are perfect AND have road cases.

Similar to these Technics DZs, I had a pair of Numark HDX (didn't have issues at all) but got rid of them as soon as I realized the difference of the feel when I purchased a pair of Technics 1200s. Timecode responses better on vinyl than on CDs in my experience on a side by side comparison.

There is Zero delay with time code on an SD card.

I know what you mean, HDX has built in memory and I had Traktor and Serato timecode signals stored in them too.
What I mean by \"response\" is the sound quality and the dynamics when you scratch. I am not a full-pledge scratch DJ but even the basic and intermmediate tricks that I do sounded a lot better on needles. For straight mixing only... we might not see the difference. If you\'ll be more on this side, yeah! The CD type full size turntables (like the DZ or HDX) will do the job. Agreed on less maintenance on cartridge, constant replacing of timecode vinyls and keeping up with dust. But once it becomes a routine it'll be easy to get used to.
Just be prepared to answer the over and over question... Are those real turntables? Where are the needles?
I had this a lot, LOL!
BTW I had the Denon 3900s and X1600 set too. I got rid of them about 2 weeks ago for the same reason.
This is my set up now...
