I'm not a scratching or trick DJ but I'm a really good beat mixer. With turntable and CDJ's I always placed the mixer on the left of my tables/CDJ's. Where I'm from this is the typical setup of 95% of club DJs. Or on the right side as well. Is Quebec, Canada the only place in the world that DJs setup this way? My mentor as a child(long, long ago) taught me this way of mixing and he always explained that it was always the best way because you train one hand to mix and the other to manipulate the tables.
Where I'm going with this... Since controllers are all starting to look and function the same way, would there be a demand where a controller can be built with the mixer to the left or right of the players or detachable pieces that can be configured in any way you feel comfortable. It would have to be in a similar price point of for example the Pioneer DDJ-SX, what I use today.
Another advantage to this would be service. Just return the part that's broken to the repair shop

I thought about this a little bit before posting. I was trying to figure out market demand, ease of separating the components, build cost. Then I thought about how much they would mark it up for the extra option of being able to swap it around.
If the DDJ SX is going for around $1000, how much more would it be for some CDJ style tables and a mixer?
At that point your able to send each component back for service, have a single spare, upgrade components individually, etc.

Basically, each component would need a connector for power and midi signal on each side of the player and mixer for setup choices. For me a simple design! The main markup would be in the separate casings.

Please understand that I am not in disagreement with the idea. I'm just looking at different angles.

Aren't you sick of all that, why not just get used to a nice Pio controller and have done, 1 power lead, 1 USB + signal lead(s)

This I have to totally disagree with. I mean just look at any of the top djs in the world.
The left hand has to be able to do what the right hand can do and vis versa.........
Unless I'm not understanding what you mean??

Why does it have to? It doesn't, if you set the mixer up to one side... If you're doing clever turntablist scratchy things, I can see the point of having the mixer in the middle, but for most of us, it actually makes good sense. That said, my OCD and love of symmetry would prevent me from setting up like this. ;)
